How to implement the billboard

Hello people, I'm new to the game ( and love it!) but there is something I don't understand.
I have the billboard and if I click on it I can link two workbenches but it makes no difference.
At what stage of planning do I put in the billboard??.
Please be patient with me I'm not the youngest anymore :D

in the start, you add the queue to the billboard like you would do with workstations, that way it gets split to all the workstations that is linked to that billboard.

note you can't add all stations together on the same billboard. Mostly I find it useful when you've got 2+ of the same station. Then as Zyddie said it divides the work between them for you, when in the planning phase you link the station plan to the billboard instead of the specific station. But I have seen it not split small tasks up.
