OUTDATED: Break Rooms, Mood and Collapsing Workers
We are currently getting a fair amount of questions about the break room, energy and mood mechanics of the game. We did have some data before the release that these features were a bit abstract and could be introduced better, but it's pretty clear that we underestimated the amount of confusion this would actually cause. Sorry about that! :S

We will definitely look at how we can improve these features in the near future! :)
Until then, please direct any new players, questions and feedback to this thread.

Below you'll find a brief explanation on how these features work. A similar text can also be found in the game’s helpsection, available in all supported languages.

Break Rooms
Break rooms are used to replenish energy for your workers. If you don’t have a break room, your workers will simply go at it until they are completely exhausted and collapse on the floor. This sort of thing is not very good for workforce morale, not to mention the safety concerns!

You can see how efficient a break room is by turning on the Room Effect Lens, next to the options menu on the top right. The same information is also displayed whenever you browse or try to place a new break room item or furniture.

- Your break room capacity is measured in Cups™. You can have up to 10 Cups™ per room, so buying a ridiculous amount of coffee machines might not actually help much.

- Each time a worker takes a break, they will exhaust one Cup™ and slowly recover all of their energy.

- Cups™ are recharged / "reset" over time. You can increase this rate by placing items from the lower break room shop category.

- If there are no Cups™ available then your workers will soon start collapsing on the factory floor.

Mood and Comfort
Working in the production industry can be quite demanding for the senses and it’s important to keep your workers comfortable and happy. An unmotivated worker that is forced to work in a “bad” environment will lose energy much quicker, leading to more frequent breaks and lowered efficiency for your factory.

Almost all furniture and workstations contribute to the overall comfort or "mood" in your factory. Machines and workstations lower the comfort by creating noise, weird smells and disturbance. To counter this, you can place decorations and relaxation items that beautify the work area and improve the overall mood of your workers. All positive and negative effects are accumulated on a room-to-room basis.

Note that the size of each room may also affect the overall mood and comfort. Workers generally don’t feel comfortable working in very large and too open spaces. A few dividing walls here and there usually does the trick and it can make your factories feel a lot more “homely”!

----

And that's the gist of it! Feel free to post any questions, suggestions or ideas below. We would love to hear if you have any "best practice" tips for other new players and feel free to share screenshots of how you have solved these challenges!

I was just writing a guide about this after seeing the many questions on the discussion board, I hope this can help someone. I've written about how I handle energy gain/drain:

Could you at least give us some decorations that look like they would belong into a workshop? I've never seen a Aloe Vera lying around in a carpentry.

I have never seen a hearth or an oven placed so close to a wood storage either ;D We are intentionally allowing our miniature world and the models to be a little whimsical at times. The decorations are probably some of the more extreme examples, and we really like them.
More options can't hurt though I guess - I'll put it on the wishlist! :)

+1. I'd very much like some more "serious" decorations.

You can have up to 10 Cups, the upper section of the break room shop adds to that capacity.

If you get a malus from negative mood, do you also get a benefit from positive mood?
So, does it make a difference if I have zero or +50 mood in a room?

Where can I see a map (plan) of game development? Will new materials and production lines be introduced?

Indeed - a positive mood makes your workers hang out and work for longer :)

I was planning to get that posted early this week, check back in a bit later and you'll probably find it in a pinned thread.

(ignore mess moving everything around) Collapsing is still broken. I constantly have my team down for exhaustion for no reason. mood is fine, why are they falling down?

Is +50 mood better than +10 or any positive mood the same?

total room is over 50, which seemed to matter yesterday. My breakroom has extra coffee makers and fridges. its showing 57.

the staff room have quotas in it, the coffee machine and vending machine totally can create ten quota, and if the quota use up, staff start falling.
you need multiple staff rooms

for item other then coffee machine and vending machine of staff room, it only affect the regeneration of quota.
you can see the number of quota left when you turn the heart icon on and hover the mouse over staff room

This did fix the problem. I was watching the filled cups at top and they never ran out. Still think there's an issue with this..
