Sadly, I must down vote this potentially awesome game.
As always; I'd like to give fans an opportunity to change my mind, when I'm only barely on the negative side of the fence.

+Love the "gun-building" element.
+Having 30 jumps is awesome!

-My "secret detection" is at full and I miss some after searching each room with a "fine-toothed comb"?
-Too random for my taste; some rooms near end have 1 pathetic enemy, some near beginning will have an unbeatable army, especially if you don't key/mouse...which brings me to the most important point.
-In most FPS my skill with a controller is > half what it is with K/M, but the mouse hurts my hand a lot faster than a controller and I am AT LEAST ten times not as good with a controller, for this game.

I can can only beat the "preset parts" mission, I have run out of all barrel parts trying to do "any other mission" a couple times AND I can only win 1/20 of the preset mission attempts.

...I give up, not wasting my time when I no longer have the confidence to "give it my all". I'm going to go play Dark Souls PVP, Valdis Story's Goibniu Mode or try to finally beat lvl20 of Cotton Alley in Super Meat Boy.

17 hrs of play...feels like a huge waste...nothing to show for it

You must have really bad ergonomy if your mouse hurts that bad

On the secrets note, I also try to scour every nook and cranny, and have never managed to get every secret in a level. The best I ever did was 11/12. I think I did a 17/21 or something like that once, which is way more secrets, but a worse ratio. A few that I found are WAY up high in the scaffolding in areas that are pitch black, and you need a ton of extra jumps to even dream about getting to.

As for the controller bit, you can't hold that against this game for that reasoning. I feel for you man, because growing pains suck, but that isn't even remotely the fault of the game. If it were something like the controller support being piss poor, or simply not implemented, I could see your point, but unless I've misunderstood you, that's just an unfair assessment on your part.

For your last point, I'm having the exact opposite problem. I much prefer the missions where you get whatever junk they give you, and you gotta make whatever you get work. When I have to select my loadout, I get paralyzed with having too many things to select from. After I finish most missions, I end up being forced to sell enough crap to be able to be under the inventory limit.

Anyway, that all said, you've put at least 17 hours into the game, which I'd say is well more than fair enough to be able to form your opinion of the game. In the end your opinion on the matter is as far as it matters in this matter. I just happened to see your review on the top of the community page while I was looking for something else, and had the inspiration to write all this unnecessary response out.

No, thank you for your honesty. The review is written and I won't undo it now.

After 17 hours; I would not consider 6 starting jumps and 500% secret detection a constructive use of my time, because that's all I have to show for it...

It stopped being fun when I realised that I'm going nowhere, because I won't K/M anything but the occasional "casual" game...and I don't really play those. The controller takes many hours before my hands hurt and this game is waaay too hard with a controller(*subjective*), but I find it too easy with K/M.

That kind of imbalance I can't find in other FPS games, controller is "always" harder than K/M...but the distance between them is not even a fraction of this game.

More controller option might help, but I've already uninstalled it, so I don't really care.

There is a strategy that I use, if your bad at the game in the start and run out of barrels just go into the side mission that will give you free guns. The side mission looks like a small ship with a bullet on it, when you try to add guns to the mission you will see there are guns that are already there. If you open the door and see another door you can shoot that door and then it will open, then you can rush to the door as the robots spawn, keep on doing this until you reach the end and you then get free guns!. If you die you don't lose any guns!

its mostly so much harder with controller because its a very vertical game. most shooters dont have you jumping around and shooting high or low on the camera axis which is where the motion of the camera starts to act differently then when its level with the ground.

My biggest problem will always be RNG. I might use AWESOME weps from that side mission, but even that mission seems so hard if I don't end up with 20 jumps by the end.

Being able to jump that many times is amazing, this game has me trying to get to the ceiling more than trying to survive it, tho.

So, something to add pertaining to Jumping: weapon kickback/recoil applies vertically if you shoot downwards. The practical upshot of this is that with many weapon builds you'll wind up getting more "jumping" oomf from your guns than from the jumping itself, with the one caveat that jumping in mid air still insta-cancels any downward momentum when falling, rather than weapons which still have to fight against it a little.

Using weapons for movement is a skill I do recommend cultivating, since it can let you FLY across the room very quickly and you can still use your jumps for more fine maneuvering.

I don't really have any salient tips for how to do that effectively with a controller though, I regret to say - all my experience with this game is with M+KB.

Then maybe don't invest all your points in secret detection and jumps??? At least half of the secrets in a level is unnecessary because of how many they are, and the stat boosts they give aren't that important. just get movement speed, max health, energy recharge, or any other armory upgrade combo that will make you less ♥♥♥♥ at the game. Because not gonna lie... you're just really ♥♥♥♥ at the game, and it's probably because all you care about is making a wacky loadout and getting every secret.

OK, so you don't like first person shooters, and don't like games with randomly generated levels.

Why exactly did you think you would like this game?

Nice misrepresentation. I never said either of those things, I have plenty FPS and Roguelike games...
...wanna try again?

I have since been able to beat a couple levels and may remove the neg review...but some of you irrational people do not want to make it easy for me.

Part of what I grade is how much help a difficult game can have useful advice in the discussions or on google. Being a ♥♥♥♥ to angry ranters doesn't help their problem and it certainly doesn't make me think gamers are intelligent or nice.

If you were angry and stuck; I would help...not misrepresent your position to make it easier to attack.
