do you need to play Dragon Quest Heroes 1 first?

was wondering if it's worth playing Dragon Quest 1 first or start playing DQ 2 right away

As with many Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy games the stories of both games and locations are not connected in any way, therefore you can play DQH 2 right away if you want to.

There are a few recurring characters however, although those are pulled, as in the previous game, from different main series Dragon Quest games. They do not mention any events that happened in DQH 1.

Therefore, as with the aforementioned main series games or the Final Fantasies, you can start with any game in the series.

DQH isn't NEEDED to play first, but I do recommend playing it at some point. It's a pretty good game and has a much better endgame.
