Love DQ But Don't Like Musou
DQ is my favorite franchise ever, the originals for the Gameboy was my first real game. Passed on the last game because of tech and other issues. Would someone that loves DQ but not really into Musou games get anything out of this? Is this different enough from the Dynasty Warriors game?

That one is supposedly more RPG like and less tower defense than the first entry. FWIW, I'm not huge on musou anymore (used to be years ago) and I still enjoyed DQH. Being a DQ fan sure helps I guess.
Not even played DQ games, been burnt out on Musou and the first one was very enjoyable better than any musou game I played with hero variety and the RPG Lite systems.

That's good to hear. From the trailers it looks like this one will be close to a DQ game.

It's also neat to play as your favorite characters. In this case, mine would be Carver and Alena.

Not a big Warriors-fan myself, though I did enjoy Hyrule Warriors and Dragon Quest Heroes 1. I'd say Hyrule Warriors is pretty much a typical Warriors-game in the Zelda-universe, but DQH is more streamlined and easier to pick up and play. Instead of a huge map and always trying to be everywhere at once, you have a set goal most of the time. There are also some interesting twists (two-story high bosses, indoor locations etc). I really enjoyed DQH, though I'm a long-term fan of the DQ-series.

I haven't played DQH2 yet, but from what I've seen and heard, it's even better than DQH1. Better gameplay, and more characters from the franchise. So as a non-Warriors fan, but huge DQ-fan, pre-ordering this for PS4 was a no brainer. Didn't know it was coming out for PC, though. Not that my PC is anywhere near good enough to play it. But that's what consoles are for. :-)

I'm a huge fan of DQ and Warriors games, so I figured the first one would be perfect for me. Unfortunately it ended up being mostly a third person tower defense game that was boring as all hell. Fortunately they've apparently learned their lesson and focused on actual gameplay this time. lol

Hey mate, don't buy this game if you don't like musou! You will get exactly what you hate about musou games: Slaying thousands of not very challenging enemies, leveling characters for a really long time, hard earned gear upgrades and so on.

As to how similar the game is to Dynasty Warriors: On the one hand I would have to ask back which Dynasty Warriors, because they were all sorta different if you played them all. And the simplistic answer I would give to a person who does not know the games well enough is: The difference is mostly, that the DQ story is more lovey dovey and funny, I would have let kids play the previous game. The Dynasty Warriors story is serious and militaristic... not gonna say it follows the three kingdoms novel, because I've read the entire thing and it doesn't for most parts.

Biggest difference I would name between any DW and the first DQH was the playtime, DW usually takes me hundreds of hours because of the countless characters and all their hidden gear parts, DQH was about 60 hours I think then I had it completed and the gear wasn't that exciting. Mostly played for the story.

Again: Don't buy this game if you loved the RPG Dragonquest and dislike musou. You would hate it!
Love the series, and this game is just so fun! :D Well DQH1 is.

It isnt a Musou game, neither the first one aside from map design, objectives,a tension meter while everything else was a action Jrpg combat system like the recent tales game BUT in DQH2 we get an open world so as a game it actally shares very little with Musou now.

That's a much better description then what I heard.
Most likely going to buy this when it comes out hoping that XI comes to PC, or at least localized for NA.

You're right... and wrong. There is absolutely a lot of Musou-elements here. Enough to justify putting it in that genre. Big maps, tons of enemies, hack and slash gameplay, plenty of playable characters... the whole thing. It's just a more toned down, streamlined Musou than the traditional ones. But saying it's not a Musou is like saying Final Fantasy 15 is not a JRPG because there's no controllable party, no strategy to combat, no gear, no magic and so on. Personally I think it's an ARPG (and a bad one at that), but deep down it's still technically a JRPG. Just a very untraditional one. But hey, it's not like it's one of the games that invented the modern JRPG in the first place, and thus have a lot to live up to. Oh, wait...

BTW there's a demo of DQH2 out on PSN. Based on my experience there, I think a lot of people will be disappointed if they expect this to be an open world.

Kinda in the same spot except I like Musou but not the recent releases. I got SW4 and I hated how the game played. Just tons and tons of enemies for the sake of it and the combat was just absolute P155water. Its also why I skipped on Berserk since it seemed like the same thing as SW4. Loved DW8 to bits though.

Thats why this game seems more apealling since they arnt flodding the screen with enemies just for the sake of it. But idk how well the combat is in this. Are there juggles, simple combo>musou attack strings, late game advanced gameplay options from the weapon enhancement system? All those were in DW8 but 2 off those were absent in SW4 and I didnt bother sticking around long enough to see if the 3rd thing was in SW4 late game.
