Difficulty of this game
I love this type of art and JRPG but watching this game worried me so I thought I better ask. I just want to play through once for fun and I cannot react too quickly because I usually play turn based games. I am quite slow and I wondered if I will be able to achieve any of the objectives or will this game be too hard for me to play.

I can try to play with a controller but my character control is quite slow even worse than WASD controls which is better for me. Will I have to move rapidly and spin around and stuff or can I still fight if I am not so good with the thumbstick control and often veer off target. How important is it for me to have good control of my character while fighting and how fast do I have to push the attacks.

Enemy AI in this game has high tendency to target the character you are controlling and your team mate are better at defend/ support than attacking. If you veer off target too much, just swap character and continue attacking. There are character that utilise charge attacks (holding button), they are equally good if you aren't attuned to fast combos. Controller is easier because you need to hold the R1 button and another to use tech/spell.
If you can dodge/jump and swap character often, it will be easy.

Only Multiplayer is hard when you occasionally have team mate that are obsessed with doing combo and not block/dodge. Fortunately, you retain all exp, loot, gold even if you fail in story and MP.

If you are not fast with button controls, you can go for a slower and more hard hitting class to play as. Like a warrior/Gladiator with an Axe. Or a spell caster, and even a thief with a bow is not going to give you issues as there a many charged attacks instead of spamming attacks.

The game isn't super easy overall. It will require you to dodge and switch targets, but it's not going to have you spinning around and no scoping with precise aims. I use a controller, and have the camera speed at max, and it's just not designed for fast, rapid aiming. It's fine.

Some classes are very spammy though with rapid combo while moving fast. But like I said if they are an issues there's choice there to pick something else.

Lastly, there's also a camera lock on for the big targets.

Okay I will pick a class with slower or ones with charged attacks, thank you for the replies.

I checked a review and the guy there said you have to dodge and block and also avoid other environmental things too while fighting. Like the manticore and the fire streaming from two sides. I watched a video on it and it is too much for me to handle so I decided not to buy it. Thank you for trying to help me.

Sorry you already decided against it. I'm not the fastest anymore myself and often get hit by aoe spells. Blocking is less op in this title than in the first, so I mostly try to dodge which does not work when you are still stuck in an attack animation.

However, despite being hit fairly often I don't get KOed that much, you can use healstones, a little slime named Healix also heals you, you can furthermore get characters with a healing skill into the party and pick up heal herbs. Plus high tension mode makes you invincible and you can just switch between your characters and throw out their tension one after the other on larger bosses. And there are some acessoires that help you "cheat" death.

Basically, the game is a bit more difficult than the first one but not as hard as your average action adventure.

As to the dificulty of the game, I think you would likely be fine. I'm guessing I am about 2/3rds through the game(just got tension level to 50 for spoiler free reference). I have not seen any battles in particular that require fast reflexes.

The closest to needing good reflexs was one against two enemies that react to zap based spells in a certain way, and even then would have to be point blank for it to be reflex based on the avoidance.

I have had one boss battle that needed paying attention to the environment as well for one portion of the battle. There is a big tell for it and the boss goes fairly pasive during it as well so can focus on the environment.

So far the game has been more about being situationally aware and paying attention to/identifying enemy tells.

Most attacks that hit me have been more because I missed a tell and was stuck in an animation or I wasn't paying attention. Anything big and dangerous is well telegraphed and plenty of time to react.

I'd say if your in a situation that is taking fast reflexes, it is more likely due to being under geared/leveled and being unable to kill the normal enemies fast enough.

Yes, there are times you have to dodge and block, though if its something dangerous there is plenty of time to react.

Just take your time when encounter new enemies to learn what they do.

I can play a game like Witcher 3 and I die sometimes but I can manage it the fights are not that fast and if there is a difficulty slider like in Mass Effect 3 the DLC where you face your clone I had to drop the difficulty to the lowest because I was getting slaughtered. The rest of the game I played on normal although I died plenty. This game has no such difficulty slider and I am afraid I won't be able to pass some fights. Can I grind to get past them ?

You have made me reconsider because I love the look of this game so much.

If you can play the Witcher 3, then you'll do just fine with this game.

True it has a somewhat faster pace, but it's also more forgiving. W3 is my favorite game period, and playing that on it's hardest mode is far harder than anything you'll run into here.

DQH2 is extremely enjoyable, I don't think you'll have any trouble. With the troll boss in the pyramid being a bit of a pain, but nothing worth launcfhing a controller through drywall lol.

:steamfacepalm:

Oh I loved Witcher 3 too but I only played it on normal difficulty. Okay I'll get the game, thanks for all the encouragement and good discussion. It's true I am a bit of a coward at times afraid of failing or abandoning a game. I did the same with Styx until I discovered I was not hiding properly hence why I was being discovered all the time.

For grinding to get past some of the harder ones, most definitly doable. For the non-job class characters, so far my highest is 38. On my main character I have 3 different jobs in the 27-31 range, and one currently working on is 21. Each of the 7 classes(2 need unlocking) has individual skill points that can be assigned, and some of those skills apply to all classes. Pretty sure the level cap is 99.

I believe there is also the option of grinding mini-medals, to get the equipment trade in from them, which the expensive ones are some of the best in the game.

Also if you fail on a mission, I'm pretty sure the only thing you really loose is a little time, as you keep XP and gold for certain. Items I don't recall, as it may change based on wild/war zone, but never payed enough attention as outside of mini-medals most of them are more common crafting items and some occasional accessories, as well as I have had maybe 5 "game-overs".

One thing I can tell you is, if the game mentions a formidable foe in a wild zone, don't expect to always be able to beat them when you first encounter them. Like the Boss Troll for example.
