Need help installing Batman Arkham City (Games for Windows Live Edition) on Steam
Hello everyone. I own Batman:Arkham City (GFWL Edition) that I purchased from a retailer back in December 2011. In addition to purchasing the game, I also purchased all its DLCs from the Games for Windows Live website (spending around $35). I have installed this game after a very long time and after its installation I discovered that GFWL has been removed from Batman: Arkham City and the game has now been transferred to Steam. Therefore, I am unable to access my GFWL account from within the game, and thus unable to access the expensive DLCs. I was quite worried at first but then I learned that I just need to activate the game on Steam with my Product Serial Key. I am glad that Steam recognized it since this key is more than 2 years old. However, the problem I am facing is that I have to DOWNLOAD this game via Steam which is very heavy and would be a burden on my slow internet connection and limited bandwith. I need help in letting Steam recognize my already installed Batman: Arkham City or have it install it again through the DVD discs. It would be really appreciated if someone could guide me in this regard. Thank you!

Try to install it with your DVD, and then move the folder to "Steam\SteamApps\common\" and rename it to "Batman Arkham City GOTY".
Then start the download through Steam...

He's right, that's about the only thing that has any chance of working, and it's a pretty good chance. However, I would suggest not actually moving the folder, but creating a symbolic link from the location steam wants to install it, to your current installation.

To do this, ensure that this folder DOES NOT exist yet ( Steam\steamapps\common\Batman Arkham City GOTY ), then open up a command prompt as administrator (cmd.exe), then type mklink /d "..\Steam\SteamApps\common\Batman Arkham City GOTY" "Wherever your batman arkham city install location is"

Please note that you will need to change the first location to match the location of your steam install, and the second should be where you already have the game installed.

Doing it this way will allow any registry references to continue working as they should.

The save location will also be different, and unfortunately you might lose your saves. If you can save them, you'd need to put them here (D:\Games\Steam\userdata\32814744\200260\remote) and RENAME the files to remove your user name from them (they should look like save0.sgd, save1.sgd, etc)

Good luck and I hope it works out for you!

It looks like you'll need to convert your saves, just renaming them won't do it.

There's a guide on in the community guides that will show you how, it shouldn't be hard to find.

Edit: Here's the guide. http://steamcommunity.com/app/200260/guides/#scrollTop=621

I'd say the reverse might be complicated: when converting GFWL saves to the Steam version, you actually just remove a small part at the beginning of the file.
I don't know if you can add it back easily or what it should contain.

You can check here to see exactly what is done for GFWL to Steam: https://steamcommunity.com/app/200260/discussions/0/810938810549705289/

If you want to do the reverse, maybe you could try to create a new blank save in the GFWL version, and then, using an hex editor, replace everything after the point mentioned in the thread above with whatever is in your Steam save.
