pretty decent guide though. wish ya had it up 2 weeks ago.. Lots of it is good advice, but you can do some variations with different strats which is nice. I wanna try a play through with Moria as my combat explorer :)
btw, how many days did it take you to finish the island?
As for here camp side, She has that nasty trait "stay at home mum" so - 50% forestry XP, which i guess you can offset with a trait, but i think eriik does a better job at that. I use him and Eustashe for lumber.
with her crafting and cooking, you can swap her to the forge to make potions and other needed items then cook dinner. *(though my current play has her with "hates to cook" so - 25% XP gain. )
Basically i sorta play her as the "mother protector of tribe" as shawnee likes to say.
eustache also sucks because of his - 50 % exp and with extreme dif that really slows him down. also everybody hates his ass.
Overall I would kick out eustage (and some other looters since they suck) once the looters become completely irrelevant (once you upgrade salt production and find loki), after that combat should be used on characters that need exp or the main fighters since resources become irrelevant.
don't forget that yaghoub gives 20 rope for you as a bribe, so that could come in handy in the early game.
forestry on blodewed is fairly irrelevant, she is an all round worker potential and can do many things in camp depending on the need, she is also the best fighting candidate since she has inbuild dam resistance, 16 hp, cheap attacks and most importantly she can pull enemies from the back row.
also after the lumber camp you should build a fishing camp. that allows you to get the extra people in and helps with overall food shortage. to build it you would need to save 1 stone on day 1 repairs.
You should also test what tributes you can get away more as right now it's not very good. eg on week one you can pay just 5 wood and after paying 12 water it resets to 0, that should allow you to pay half the wood next time as well.
not sure if your guide mentions it, but the only way you can get away without week 2 tavern is by highrolling on map events and getting mead. no highroll = you have to build it early. the most important highrolls in the early game is plenty of rain and no storm - that makes things a lot easier, followed by the most important highroll of the game is finding early loki into finding early thor and killing thor for an easy 50% price reduction. that highroll makes the rest of the game trival.
BTW, i did try a bunch of early harvest camp builds, I just couldn't find one that building it first worked for me. I've kinda settled in on, Lumber, Harvest, Sleep, mining or tavern depending, cooking pot, fish, forge, garden, hunting, that seams to work best for me no matter what characters pop up near me. I'd probably tweak things a bit depending on how rolls go, and what traits my people have, and who pops up for me to recruit early.
Ohh i didn't know that is how the tributes work, So if you pay over it lowers the bar, and less it raises it? that is great to know!
I think making lumber 1st is kinda pointless because you can never actually use it on day 2, unless you want to make moira chop wood, while harvesting fruit on day 2 is legit. you can get extra wood from map events if needed. finding day 1 drying clothes is probably the best day 1 highroll since you get wood and get fabric to make resting camp, afterwards if more wood needed you can gather from the fire mushroom tree. both of those events are always close to the camp so you are guaranteed to find them by day 3.
as for shanaw i can see your point, but early game the extra loot is nice, and you can use her as a harvester when you first get her, and then move her over to hunter. Then if you need loot send her out i search of a fight to gain the extra gear. the early game the extra lootr is nice, and the enemies are not to far out of her kill reach, she can finish things off, or debuff.
Granted this all depends on who is in the slot closest to your camp, are you getting a single or a double. I like shanaw for fun, the persians for excitement, and Knut and solv for camp power.
also if you get a really poor roll on your first day one scavenge attempt,(sometimes you only get 3 fish) It can just better to take take the second salvage, then you will have the extra wood/rope/cloth, so you can go Mining camp, or Resting camp if you don't get the clothing loot on the first day. Sometimes i make the mining camp first if i got a terrible roll and had a really broken workbench, so harvest day 3, first fruit day 4. But you had 2 fish, 1 meat, then cheese so no one is going hungry. Id rather use that food, then start taking 2 full days to make stuff because my work bench is down to 60% and my none of my crafters were good enough at start to over come that. Seams like crafting can go from under 25-40 depending on your starting rolls/traits
if you can get away without early harvesting camp on hard dif, good for you. I find it very difficult to deal with hunger without it and burning food events so early will backfire most of the time.
Kari went insane, and had like 3-4 other very bad things on her 3 of which were at 25% fixed in a healing tent. I tired for 20 days, most of the time twice a day, and not a single one vanished, in fact she just kept getting other things stacked on as well.
then Moria got some perpetual sickness, that kept raising her sickness daily by around 10, even with potions i was having a hard time, and needed to build the second slot, and everyone else was getting beat up in combat.. it was awefull..
So basically, perhaps trying to delay it so you can get the resources for the tent upgrade is worth doing. I gave up on that play.. I did have another that i ran into none of those problems over 50 days in. So RNG can be a killer in this game.
this game i'm over 100, and hit 54 days once, and 20-30 a half dozen times or more.. And i just started again!
I think this one is gonna be good though, i got cessi, and Shanaw as my first two campers to join. :)
Day 40 best record so far.
