Amnesia crashing on startup.

I downloaded Amnesia: The Dark Descent on my PC. I installed it and everything was fine. I opened the game and still, everything was fine. But I pressed "Launch Game" and it crashes. Every single time. Help?
specs of my pc are:
intel duo core 2.5 Ghrz processor
4 GB ram
ATI Radeon HD 256mb video card (pretty aged)
windows 8

There is nothing wrong with your specs, at least I don't think so. One thing you could do is verify your game cache files, which you can do by right-clicking the Amnesia: The Dark Descent link on the left of the screen in your library. Then keep clicking until you find the button that says something like "Verify game cache files" or something. If that doesn't help, try restarting your steam and your amnesia, and you can also try running it as an administrator. I hope I can help you with this issue because I know how it feels to not be able to play it...

But if none of this works log in on a different computer and play it there. Usually works. :)

I think it's your space if you have low space it will run slow and crash becouse this game once you lunch it it will take a lot of space so i think thats why

Mine didn't crash, but takes a long long time (about 5 full minutes on a 3.4GHz machine) for the game to finally come up, hope this gives you some insight, it is a great game and worth working around any issues

Are your drivers up to date?

I've tried all everyone has suggested.
All my drivers are up to date, and have even verified the cache files multiple times.
Sadly nothing has worked yet, not even reinstalling the game.

You could try playing on a different PC, that worked for me.

Maybe posting the hpl.log is a chance to still figure out why it crashes.

http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-12489-page-2.html try that "Try renaming (no deleting) the folder Amnesia to Amnesia_OLD at Documents so that the games can recreate it and see if that helps. If it does not then you can delete the newly created Amnesia folder and rename Amnesia_OLD back to Amnesia. "

Just remove main_settings.cfg in documents/amnesia. Helped me.
