Personally, if you are a absolute beginner in this, I wouldn't recommend starting with the Amnesia Custom Story Editor at all.
When it comes to coding, RPG Maker is very simple and friends I know with little to know experience in that area have managed to make little games. An Amnesia Custom Story however I find to be harder. This is a taste of what you can expect http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=160111977.
You do not need A Machine for Pigs to use the editor, but I'm not following by what you mean for "bonus stuff". Do you mean ripped models?
If you want to get your feet wet, RPG Maker is a start. If you want to get into making 3D models, animating, and working with a game engine, Blender is a free program you can use that you can buy very detailed books on how to use it or there are literally thousands of tutorials on youtube (and is where I started) as well as even DVDs you can buy on their website with lessons too. If you are still determined to use the Amnesia Editor, there are tutorials on youtube for that as well. Same with RPG Maker.
And just a heads up, a lot of the things you can learn taking a game development class, you can learn by looking online and dedicating a ton of time to it. You just got to have the drive and dive in.
