How scary is this game?
I've been watching Markiplier play The Bunker and I wanna check it out. I noticed this game was on sell and figured I would pick it up since it's a classic. How scary is it? I played SOMA last October and it was pretty scary, but I managed to power through. I also played Alien Isolation about two months ago and managed to get pretty far.

I haven't tried Alien Isolation but I think The Dark descent is much scarier than Soma.

first play-through is scary as well as some repeats though eventually, it'll lose its effect with repeat playthroughs (won't spoil how the encounters work game wise so ur experience isn't ruined)

I played SOMA before The Dark Descent - both are awesome games - but The Dark Descent was much scarier for me.
I enjoyed playing Amnesia and I think you should definitely play it because no other game can match the amazing (and scary) atmosphere of The Dark Descent! :oxinablanket:

This game is so bad. Tedious puzzle game with no interactions. The puzzles are stupid asf and the monster is stupid asf. Not a hard game just meant to annoy you with puzzles. Everyone hyping this game dumb.

This game is literally a walking simulator. Barely any monster encounters.

What a nice guy, calling 95% of the players dumb. Toxic without reason, how low is that?

Its a bit dis-respectful to just call it an walking sim, horror has some diff sub-genres, Dark Descent picking the one where u are vulnerable and cannot fight back. Some like it, some don't, you might like survival horror instead and that's fine.

Sounds like you have a severe case of skill issue.

I mean you spend like 80% of this game wandering hallways and solving puzzles. That is the very definition of a walking simulator as far as I'm concerned. When the game is trying to be scary its just [insert loud noise here combined with screen shake] and even when the player encounters monsters, the encounter is usually over within five minutes because the NPCs dont linger around the area like they do in say SOMA.

I actually don't find DD to be much of a walking sim, the people claiming its a walking sim need to look up a game called dear esther. That's a straight up walking sim, and it really wasn't that bad a walking sim either. Pigs to me was more of a walking sim, considering I beat pigs first then played dd, dd really surprised me how much actual gameplay it has. Now there's no fighting, or weapons, but you do have an inventory, you got insanity effects as well which not a lot of horror games actually do besides the celebrated eternal darkness. It has puzzles, health management, sanity, item collecting and use... Its kind of odd that a game that had so many different mechanics, got simplified for its sequel but pigs isn't bad if you just wanna walk through a creepy story.

DD actually feels like a real game, its actually a game that has me interested in its sequels like bunker and rebirth.

But getting back on topic in regards to the ops question, I really liked the insanity effects and the crushingly oppressive and dark atmosphere. The monsters are really just blockers to push stealth and hide gameplay. Its basically what influenced alien isolation which I did not like at all. Sorry to any isolation fans, I would of liked it more if they didn't treat a physical creature like a ghost and all physical objects besides fire just pass right through it. It wasn't realistic to the films, or the actual primal struggle of the alien. The alien was never suppose to be invincible and unstoppable and what you get in isolation is cool looking space stuff, cool weapons, and an alien that is better off avoided and not even looked at. All you fight is some androids and a few human enemies. Was not a fan of isolation, when people bash DD they are actually bashing a horror classic not a sci fi rehash that doesn't even fit the feeling of dd. You are disturbed by the story, the castle, the events, and the atmosphere, I could care less about the monsters.
