I've seen that part so many times that I can avoid it so easily and even jump on its head.
There was a part also previously where you could see a hallucination of it coming towards you, given that you first saw it a moment later enter a doorway.
Having ammnesia and not remembering much while waking up in a castle with low lighting(which further takes a toll on his sanity because he is afraid of the dark) doesn't help much with his mental stability.
Also before the start of the game he did some stuff that took a toll on his sanity and even with having ammnesia and not remembering doing those things still did take a toll on his mind.
