Hi is the game scary?
I think I was one of the original backers to this and got it like ten years ago, but never played it because I am a wimp. But recently I played through Alien Isolation and it was absolutely horrifying. Is this game about that scary?

It sure has some scares that will get you at first and the feeling being chased but once you reach to end you have most likely gotten semi use to it so definetly should try to play it!

I would say the atmosphere this game creates is scary. Not so much jump scares.

yeah. at first you get scares that’ll easily get your heart racing instantly but later on you would get used to those scares that used to scare you before.

I tried playing it years ago as well but couldnt. Have since played it and like the others have said you eventually get used to it and it just becomes about completing it lol. Alien Isolation on the other hand was scary AF lol

I'd say this game is way scarier. This title is known to be one of the most terrifying games in existence. Guarantee this will scare you on some level.
It is a "psychological" horror game, it does not need jump scares or puddles of blood. It scare you by suggestion and threat. If you die it's quick and you go back to last save point.
It is the brilliance of mind manipulation that makes this a classic, imo. Yes, it's scary, enjoy it~

It's scarier than Outlast in my opinion

Having played Alien: Isolation and beaten it (on PS4) I can say by the end of that game, you're completely desensitized to the xenomorph killing you. You're just like ... "come on, man, I just want to get past this part and go to bed."

It starts off being really scary, but I feel like it eventually just becomes routine the further you get.

I just started playing this game - I haven't encountered anything yet other than weird environmental stuff. Seems like it's got a little more bark than bite (hence being psychological ... it messes with you). I just walked into the archives ... i'm sure it's about to get tense.

Also, I've had the grunt spoiled for me ... so I know what it looks like.

I"m sure not knowing what's chasing you makes it even scarier.

Its a big problem horror games have in general: fear vs frustration. If the monster is killing you too often in a mandatory part of the game it stops being scary and starts getting annoying.

The xenomorphs appear way too often, as if they're a form of padding, to stop the player progressing too quickly. In which case, the designers should've understood that sometimes, nothing is scarier. There should've been sections where there are no enemies, just increasing amounts of corpses as the monster ravages the station, filling you with isolation.

Honestly, I think this particular suggestion is precisely what makes Amnesia deeply more terrifying that A:I.

I've played a little further now, and I sometimes have to just turn it off after just a few minutes of progress. The sense of dread you get from not knowing is really powerful.

Edit"
Also, being a veteran of sorts of survival horror, these games are more fun when they can be beaten in couple hours, the thing stopping you from continuing is your own fear, not an enemy just making it ridiculous for you lol ... I spent so many hours getting through one run of A:I that I just don't desire to play through it again. I'm also certain there's only one ending in that one.

So - I thought I'd come back after I beat the game, which I just did today.

This game blows Alien: Isolation out of the water in almost every category in terms of what it does. I can say that by the end I wasn't quite as afraid anymore - but definitely not for the same reason as in Alien. It wasn't due to annoyance, it's just that I typically rush the enemies to desensitize myself to them, and you eventually understand the loop and that makes the game a lot less tense.

BUT - the story that's here is very well done. You might find, like me, the story was so much better than Alien's, and the pacing was done really well with the monster and the environment and the puzzles ... It's well worth a playthrough, and I encourage you to face your fears and play this game - there's a reason that it was considered the best survival horror game for its time.
