What.. It Was Actually Scary!
Generally I'm disappointed by games that get Steam fanboy hype. Thought FEAR was repetitive and bland, Half Life series was not greatest game ever, and Metro and STALKER are clunky as hell! So I give in to the hype and played Amnesia.....well I'll be John Brown, it actually was pretty good, it actually has some scary parts.

Yeah the water monster is what I'm referring to.... the first encounter in particular. I also like that the game doesn't overstay it's welcome, to me horror games work best as short stories rather than drawn out campaigns.

Yeah, I was actually pleasantly surprised with some of it, too. I wouldn't say that it's the scariest game ever, but it had its moments. I think it excelled most at giving that perpetual feeling of dread and slowly intensifying it. Probably the scariest moment for me was actually that one portrait you see later on in the game that looks perfectly normal one minute and then you turn around and the face is all warped. It's the little details like that that still sit with me even after the game is over. The torture chambers were kind of creepy, too - I think it was a lot more effective to leave it to the imagination to visualize what happened than to actually watch the torture happen.

Have you tried Alien Isolation? It's a lot like this game, you might want to try that next.

Amnesia is a good game. I love playing it. ESPECIALLY custom stories. Those are the best. xD

I don't think people really look to Half-Life for horror though
