60 fps is more than enough. The game will runs very fluently then. Better a constant fps than moving fps from hight to low. But if you want to get the best game performance use lower picture settings. There is no other way unless you have a better CPU and video card but thats a waste of money for over 60 fps. And some games doesn't even go highter than 60 fps. I played Soma with over 144 fps sometimes 200 and it was even bad if the fps where changing. with 60 FPS I have no disadvantage. By the way if you want a fast mouse controlling you doesn't need 144 fps, you just have to choose the right mouse sensitivity. A lot of people forget this and wonder why the game movement is so slow althought they have over 60 fps (: I can even play games with 45 fps fluently if I have the right mouse sensivity. some games runs even on 30 fps. Did you know that the playstation has no more than 60 fps. fps are often overrated.

Yeah after this weidly biased opinion, since I am one of the people who things fps are definitely not overrater nor that 60 is more than enough, I'd love to hear someone actually help and tell us if there is a way to get it to 144.

i believe this game is capped at 60 fps. Couldn't make it run at 75 fps for my 75 hz monitor

Capped Framerate. You can't really change it.

It's weird cause in some of the game's config files there are lines that say engine limitfps=true (or false) but they don't chage anything if you put them to false. It's like they're not used by the game or that something else is limithing the fps.

Hard coded. Some games have this. Design choice.

I actually just found a config file that allows you to get 144 fps, and it actually works in-game, but like you said, the game is still running at 60 fps, even if my gpu is rendering 144.

So this pretty much proves it's hard coded.

What I mean by it's still running at 60 fps is that it's still very choppy even if I have 144 fps. It wasn't clear in my other post.

Good for you?
did you tried to make the mouse sensivity highter. If it will not runs with 60 fps it must be a other reason why it is choppy. As I said I played the game Soma between 140-200 fps and it doesn't feels better than the lower fps. It was even a bit bad if the Frames changed too much. I had the same problems with 140 fps so it can't be the Frame per second at all. For first I would recommend you to keep an eye on the FPS during playing, because it can be that the fps drops down in some situations. Then it would explains a lot. It can sometimes happen that you got a short lag. I saw that the fps drops down from 140 to 2 no joke. There are a lot possibilitys and it isn't always the fps, in the most cases there is another problem. System is not compatible or the CPU or graphic card is too hot, check the cooling system. There are good programs where you can see the CPU and graphic card temparature. If my GPU is over 82 degree the game begins to choppy. A lot player have really good CPUs and graphic cards but they forgot to buy a good cooling system. (:. A good computer is not always better as a lot of people think. if there is not enough cooling, and the better your system is the better your cooling system have to be. You can even play games perfect with an cheaper CPU if you have an excelent cooling system. If this is not the case, there is a file missing. then try to reinstall it or try the Steam option game problem analyze (( It repairs the files sometimes). Fact is a FPS around 60 makes never such problems if there is no change. There is a difference between constant fps and changing fps. It is as you would drive a car, if you have a constant speed you won't need as much petrol as if you always change from fast to slow. But it isn't easy to solve computer problems, because there are a lot of possiblitys. If I have problems I go to the internet and see if other players have the same problem with the same system. sometimes you just need a driver if your system is not compatible.

Listen. The reason we play on PC's is so we don't have to be limited by consoles hardware / fps / storage / ect. Its not that hard to understand that higher fps = smoother animations = more enjoyable experience.

consoles suck, but also fps is overrated

To unlock the FPS limit, so you don't have to play at 60 FPS like other people who are content with their games looking like slideshows, navigate to

C:\Users\(Your User Name)\Documents\Amnesia\Main

Open main_settings

Change <Engine LimitFPS="true" to <Engine LimitFPS="false"

Change UpdatesPerSec="60.000000" /> to UpdatesPerSec="144.000000" />

( or to your monitors refresh rate)

This worked for me though I have only tested it at the very beginning and have not played through the game so I don't know if this will cause problems down the road.
