Illuminatus: Safe to use tinderboxes?

Title. The achievement only specifies that Tinderboxes must be picked up, but nothing about whether they need to be held onto.

I believe just picking up the tinderbox adds one to the achievement counter, though it is not difficult to go through the game without using them if you do not mind being at less than 40% sanity all the time.

Yeah I used one at the start while Daniel was tripping out, but as it turns out I'm getting so much lantern oil I might as well not have bothered. Hopefully this doesn't bite me in the arse later...

You can safely use the tinderboxs without harm. Just be sure to keep count, otherwise you'll beat yourself up for missing one or two all the way at the end. Also, use the Amnesia wiki if you havent mesmerized the game, or just want an easier time. http://amnesia.wikia.com/wiki/Tinderbox

Thanks, I got the achievement following this guide

It is absolutely safe to use your tinderboxes, I used a couple before reaching the 151st box and the achieve still unlocked.

If you're into achievements, it's best to rely on lantern oil. You could easily lose your tinderboxes count and miss one or two in the end.
