How do I get back to the valley?

I'm in the process of returning to valley having dealt with the second forest robot. I'm at the bit where i have to jump on the red button to get the jet of water to shoot the ball up but i can't work out how to then get the ball. I can kick it from there but only to the right and then I cant get it back again! I've gone around that loop so many times! I found a walk through that said kick it to the left but you can't! You're on the left! I don't understand how to do it! Please help!

Thats wwhat i did, im prettty sure thats the correct thing.

I kicked it to the right onto the ledge, and I went over there and kicked it over to the left. Thats how I did it.
