how do you combine items in this game?

I would like to combine items but there was no key for it anywhere in the game. I know you can do it just by some gameplay videos so how do you do it can you as bonus tell me some easy /early combinations to get me started.

There will be an info if you have two items you can combine near the (up to four) items in your inventory. If this is the case you have to select one of them and it'll show you the key you have to press to combine (I think it's the space bar).
I think in one of the first levels you get a task where you should combine gasoline with a bottle to get a molotov.
