Should I play Party Hard 1 before Party Hard 2??
Will I miss out on anything in particular or should I jump straight in?

No, let's be honest: the story doesn't really matter. It's tying the levels together, but you wouldn't miss much if you were skipping the videos. It's basically similar to hitman. You don't need the story to enjoy the levels.

Party Hard 1 is basically similar to 2. The soundtrack is also nice, but the style of graphics is different (wouldn't say worse). The gameplay is more simple/less refined in 1. Basically 2 is an advancement of the principles, which made 1 a success.

Update: Both games are (mostly) independent storywise. You won't miss anything if you start with 2. I'd still recommend to play both.

I have the opposite opinion. I much prefer Party Hard 1 in every way. I'm considering refunding this game even.

Story-wise - nothing, really. However, IMO Party Hard 1 has better gameplay and story. Party Hard 2 is more frustrating to play and the story is meh. So my point is you'll miss out on a better game if you only play PH2.

I'm a bit surprised about the frustration part. I didn't expect people to share my feeling. Although it's likely not for the same reasons.

The gameplay itself has improved.
In the first opus I would get caught out of nowhere or even get killed randomly. I would constantly miss some kniving because the hitbox was tricky. I would have long wait times for a group to disperse before being able to progress. yes I am a filthy casual.
In this opus I always felt in control of the situation, I got to 4-5 streak kill and the objects (farming cops...) and rage help unlock any situation.

The problem is, other things have improved.
We now have bigger maps, which is awesome, and tons of new objectives, which is good. Problem is, a bigger map means completing said map can/will take longer, and with moving guards on top any failure becomes costly. Add in unclear-near-cryptic objectives and frustration sets in, even without many restarts.
I'll be honest, after finishing the game I'm now waiting on a comprehensive guide to tell me what the hay I am meant to do. Circling the map five times over to try and guess what they mean by explosives isn't fun.
Okay no yeah it can be fun but in Myst. Not in Party Hard 2. Leave that for achievements, I'm trying to unlock characters here...

Maybe I should play 1 and 2 back-to-back for a fair comparison but the way I see it, 2 is better, just its ambition has caught up with it and caused trouble.

Meh, I hated charging dogs in DLC, which would kill you instantly. Here you get troops, which outrun you and if they noticed you, you are basically dead. So some frustrations were removed, some were added. Game is okay, but in my opinion PH1 was better on many points.

Also police always arrests you, they never give up. Which sucks more compared to PH1.

The games are different. Part 1 is more hardcore, but has a lot of funny events and characters. Part 2 is bit easier when we have craft system and features like multi-kill, but has more interesting objectives to do. Both deserve attention.

Well, it just really comes to what you really want to choose, yeah, the story might suck really but it just comes to if you wanna play both games, I bought both games cause they are both good games in gameplay but doo doo in story. Just do whatever you want really.
