Depends on what you want. Do you want normandy? Then get 1. Do you want eastern front? Then get 2. Do you want the newest features? Then get 2. Do you want the most active multiplayer community? Then I don't actually know which one to get, but I assume that would be 2 as well (since its newer, etc. pp.).

How should we know what you want? You need to tell us a bit more before we can recommend one over the other.

the single player content for SD2 is vastly bigger, but i think SD44 has the tighter mechanics
not to say SD2 is bad at all, just things a little more loose

Take it on Sale - you do nothing wrong with this game when you want to learn! and play a sophisticated RTS.

In SDN44 real in-game tutorials are included - unfortunately not in SD2 (only videos)!
That could make your start easier. On the other hand, you don't have "smart orders" in SDN44 - therefore more micro-management has to be done in the game. So, you definitely should do this...

Whatever you do - buy smart - forget about the Steam-Sale and ask google for a cheaper key. So you could possibly get SDN44 incl. 2 dlcs for less than 15 €....and if you buy SD2 afterwards, you get the "Back To War Pack" (25 €) for free.

Get em both on sale. Both excellent games. To answer your question what interests you most eastern or western fronts in 1944?

I had sd2 first then bought this on sale and prefer this game

Purely from a single player perspective I loved SDN44.

When SD2 was announced and was in development it went right to the top of my wishlist - I was really stoked for the campaign, scale and gameplay improvements that were coming.

But once I got it I found it much harder to get into and enjoy than SDN44 - despite the fact that it is technically superior, SD2 feels to me like it doesn't have a soul.

Maybe it's just the Eastern front and Soviet forces being put into the meat grinder, or maybe it's just too big and unwieldy for me.

I agree , much prefer playing this game as i dont enjoy playing either Russians or germans

SD 44 you control a battalion more or less. SD 2 it's regimental and up. SD 44 is western front ( I prefer) and SD 2 is eastern. Both 1944. SD 2 has much more in depth single player ( I prefer) , but SD 44 the maps are more attractive I think. Personally, for me , I prefer the setting of SD 44 but I enjoy the depth of SD 2 single player more. I just wish the devs would merge SD 44 into SD 2 and let us play as Americans on Western front campaign. Best of both worlds.

SD is fun, my main problem is the maps are really flat. Not the devs' fault, I suppose, I guess it's just that France's geography is like that.

SD has a scripted campaign that's pretty fun, SD2 seems to have a dynamic campaign with a strategic map.

I am something of a newcomer to these games, but downloaded both in a recent sale. I think that, overall, I prefer the setting, feel and scope of SD 44, but that could be because I am more familiar with that theatre. The tutorial in SD 44 is definitely far superior. The one aspect that I like about SD2 is the Smart Orders - it would be great to hand off parts of the battlefield to the AI while you focus on firefighting.

sd44 is to me the better game because i prefer playing as us\brits not russian or fins or germans. but sd2 has the better campaigns by far
sd44 better, becouse better unit icons, not so op long range arty abuse and more tactics.

Dont get either, far too fast to be a strategy, far too random to be a strategy, far too limited to be a strategy (no contours, los dubious, identify a unit to drop artillery or bomb they run away so fast and the aircraft re adjust, artillery range suspect, towed units will not deploy even when shot at, no AI common sense to assist you) its just a clickfest. Would touch either with a long sh1tty stick.

Imagine trying to manage 3 fronts, in some kind of dreamed up realtime without your units doing anything but waiting to be shot unless you tell them not to be shot but to attack.

Awful awful game, I really cannot stand it. Just tried again tonight with mods, two games and its gone forever, horrible POS.
