And all the germans are in fixed positions.... so you would just watch basically..
Most of the game would be having to either exploit inland for the allies(easy smashing of Ostruppen and light french tanks), or trying to stop the allies and crush the beachhead before more land(much harder, since you will be out numbered and out gunned).
Like i said. SOUNDS like it would be amazing. trust me, i'd love to be able to do it also. I just dont see how it could possibly work in this game. Or how it could be 'good'
I played the beach assault in too many games, already. I find it refreshing to play in the campaign behind the beaches, only.
It is an artistic, narrative choice. I can respect that.
I'm not saying that the games focus should shift entirely to beach assualts. But maybe instead of a DLC releasing three new planes and two tanks for $10.99, they could add a beach assault mode for the maps on Omaha/ Utah etc... I know for sure it would sell.
Yes while a small part of the operation and campaign, only the first day, it was by far the most crucial and risky. After D-Day the course of the campaign was pretty much decided, it was just a question of building up men and material and then breaking out of the beachhead.
I think tentaviely that it could be made possible in this game with the addition specialized assault infantry (Rangers, Engineers, British Commands) who take much more to be pinned down and keep moving regadless of heavy fire and casaulties. In addition to this, after phase 1 involving heavy casualties of the beach, phase 2 could involve naval supporting fire which would take out german positions, DD tanks landing on the beach, which would overwhelm the small number of AT guns the germans have stationed, and air support in the form of heavy bombers (B17s, B26s).
This might be a step too far for this game, but I think the addition of landing craft which would remain on the beach once infantry disembarked would be a cool feature for this type of mode.
They could also make a Dynamic campaign for this game that involved the beach assaults and airborne landings, followed by exploitation of the beachead and vice-versa with a German defensive campaign like the campaigns in Wargame Red Dragon. Everyone loved those dynamic campaigns. The single player for this game in it's current state is very weak right now anyways.
Currently this game has a lot more potential than just open-field skirmishes in hedgerows.
Anybody with me on this?
That being said, this game could use some more robust campaign content. And not everyone loved the RD dynamic campaigns- people tended to say they sucked because they just ended up being a bunch of very lopsided skirmishes.
thats basically just what i said. Chopped, screwed, and scripted to the point where it wouldnt even be fun. you just explained the only really way you could play it. It would look good but it just wouldnt play good. theres no real room for strategy or tactics.
