$40 base game on PS4 vs $60 base game on PC
$60 Special Anniversary Edition on PS4 vs $75 Steam Deluxe Pack on PC
$80 Anniversary + New DLC on PS4 vs $90 Steam Ultimate Edition Pack on PC
Not to mention PC users had to wait like 10 months to even get the game in the first place.
Because SFV should have been that price or less to begin with. I guess to avoid the constant price complaints, next time SNK should release a game with only 20 characters instead of 50 since buyers don't give that any consideration when comparing prices. Probably the last time we'll ever see that many characters given away at that low a price. They could have sold the remaining 30 from the base game as DLC for $150 the way SFV did it, then had players thanking them for dropping it to $75 later on. Instead SNK is "crapping" on us by selling all 54 characters for $75 from the start. No good deed goes unpunished. In the future we'll get the scummy DLC practices we rightfully deserve.
Certain regions were able to buy the Deluxe Edition of this game for around $30 USD back when it first launched I believe. Not sure how it is now, but it was definitely way cheaper in some areas than others.
You do realize that this game didn't launch on PC at the same time as the PS4 version, right? PC got it like 10 months later, and only got a 20% pre-order/launch discount ($48). Meanwhile the PS4 version had already hit sale prices as low as $20 by that point. You would have a valid point if we got the game at the same time as the PS4 version and both platforms had the same MSRP.
And besides, as I said in my post, the PC version still has an MSRP of $60 whereas the PS4 version's MSRP is $40 on PSN. Why aren't they on the same MSRP level at the very least?
that's the issue with "console exclussives", another practise I hope dies off, cause it's stupid and it sucks.
Yes, it's still less pricey in certain (poorer) regions, fortunately. That's how it should be, that's the whole point of having different regions.
It's worth supporting them. SNK is the kind of company we *want* the future of gaming to be made of.
Jeebus... let it go, it will get a price slash soon enough, it's already been a year or so... It's already on 50% sale IIRC when there's a big sale...
The price scheme is a year behind from the console version because it came out a year later... no biggie... just wait a bit longer, shouldn't matter if you have it on console already anyways...
And technically, this isn't the "same version" as the console... it says right there in the name, this is "KoFXIV STEAM EDITION".
Price is subjective, and it's too expensive for them. Be glad they cited reasons. At least it gives an indication of why they think so.
You are correct in that this version is different as it integrates the Steam API allowing us to use Steam features such as invite a friend, or see the Steam profile of the purple we played (thank you Abstraction). However, the game itself isn't any different, and it has been on the market for about 2 years now.
I personally agree with their take. Whether or not you own a console this game should never have launched at $60/$75 when it was nearly a year late to this platform. Worst of all, the prices remain the same even today except now the full game is even more expensive.
I'm a big fan of KOF (not SNK), but now that I've branched out and play other fighting games, I can tell you right now even though I love KOF, I will not be buying KOF XV if it doesn't get a near simultaneous release with consoles. I'm sick of playing catchup, and I'm going to support developers who do away with the console exclusive BS.
I think if they did the same exact pricing as the PS4, steam would have done much better.
I understand and agree with this line of thinking sometimes, but not in the case of this game. SNK straight up said that the sales numbers for PC ports like King of Fighters XIII Steam Edition were one of the motivating factors for them to continue game development and go on to make King of FIghters XIV:
http://shoryuken.com/2015/12/30/snk-playmore-executive-says-successful-steam-ports-helped-bring-them-back-to-game-development/
And to thank us for that they waited 10 months after the PS4 version to release this game on PC and we're still stuck paying a higher price point. If people are fine paying that good for them, but I can't personally support that.
I agree that better pricing would have helped the game sell better on Steam, but I think releasing it on PC at the same time as the PS4 version (or much, MUCH closer to it) would have helped even more.
