Graphics is of Zero concern to me.
Luong for example is the equivalent of a Super Model. She looks better than anyother model in anyother fighting game.
So while not the best visuals the excellent model designs makes up for it. SFV may have better graphics some what but the models and faces are horrible the proportions are terrible with the steroid freak look.
Biggest concern of KOF 14 is online playerbase, netcode being delay based hence making the online playerbase of US East Coast for me even more crucial.
Also KoF in general isn't super popular in the US so that's another reason.
ooh ok will pass on this then
A real shame I guess I can get Guilty Gear Rev 2 on steam you can usually find atleast 2 US East Coast room
I literally just a few mins ago went online for the first time in my KoF14 life (I just bought the game a couple days ago).
Granted, it's 10pm on the West Coast, but still, here are my experiences.
- ranked could not find any players after a few tries
- room search w/o filters yielded 5+ rooms. I joined a PST one and there was one dude in there afk.
- I exited after about 5 mins and it was suddenly down to 2 rooms. The US/CAN PST one (still w/ the one afk dude) and some other one w/ 4 dudes, but all w/ 2-3 bar connections. And they were all active in the Tourney mode of the room (elimination rotation), so none saw my chat request for Series mode (just 1v1 w/ same opposing player).
So...I'd say online isn't "dead" per se, but it definitely hanging on its last breath. Maybe at better hours, I'll get different results. Steam Charts shows just ~170 ppl playing right now, but peak for the day was 252. I'm presuming that's probably in the 6~9pm PST area. So I may try that tomorrow or the weekend/next week. See if that improves those online rooms if even by a few extra players.
edit:
shame, too. I was expecting more of an online community, as I heard it's still fairly decently active on console. Maybe it's time to migrate to Skullgirls and/or GG Xrd for my 2D anime-style fighter fix... They show much more traffic on Steam Charts and I've heard others say they're much more active online (not not sure if those ppl were referring to console or PC).
Good news is Guilty Gear is the most complex fighting game, best artstyle and graphics and gameplay.
And Guilty Gear revelator 2 has more players on PC than it does on PS4 according to a new poll.
But yeah, I'm somewhat eager to get GG Xrd Rev. But it'll still have to wait, as I'm already mentally committed to and already own SG. I'm guessing I'll probably get GG a month or two from now.
The laughably low entry and viewership ratings for the KoF XIV tournament at EVO 2017 is very telling. Also, keep in mind that the interest for KoF XIV was so low that they didn't stream the Top 16 portion of the tournament.
Damn thats terrible for a tournament.
I wonder why though? could it be because of the graphics?
I only got to watch because I took the day off for other obligations, but thankfully I was able to catch KOF afterward.
Friday stream numbers aren't really telling of much IMO.
Listening to people here and their scam about "adding people using the match finder thread" is exactly what it sounds like.
A complete scam.
everybody knows these so called KOF 14 players that you add, will play it one day and for the next 2 months they will be off to playing DOTA 2 or something else and you end up with a long list of useless people
Then there is the issue of timezones etc.
Unless a game has a highly populated online where you can always find someone in a reasonable amount of time using the match making feature. Then saying the online is playable is a scam and we all know it.
Not to mention KOF 14 has old outdated delay based netcode, this is horrific for a game with such a low playerbase the only way this could ever in a million years be worth it is if it had GGPO netcode.
maybe then it might be worth the $60 and you could play with people from different continents. As it stands with delay based you need to find people close by which again makes this game a scam because you will likely find people from Asia or Europe the odds of finding people easily in US East Coast is slim to none I am sure.
GGPO is not the end all. I actually prefer delay based instead of the warpy mess roll back turns into.
Lastly, I play people from Canada, Mexico, and even some from Europe without too much issue. Your mileage may vary. It really depends on everyone's internet. The guy next door could have a worse connection to me than someone from another continent if they're trying to suck internet through a straw.
Sorry but you have no clue what you are saying
I play MKXL and while the online is very tiny I can find people within seconds. And thanks to its GGPO / RollBack netcode it doesn't matter if the person is in mexico or Europe. It plays just fine as if its offline.
You therefore obviously have no clue what you are talking about since it is a scientific fact that delay based is old, outdated, archaic technology.
It is like comparing Dial Up to Fiber. The difference is night and day, so you can try as hard as you want you cannot scam me. I am welll aware of how RollBack netcoode performs and what it means.
Delay Based netcode will ALWAYS have input delay when you are playing with different countries or continents.
You cannot scam me with these lies I know the truth about Delay and Roll Back. And nobody in their right mind would think that Delay is still acceptable in 2017 when we have the technology to implement GGPO
The reason this game doesn't have GGPO is because they don't want to spend the money they are hoping they can get away with cheap garbage delay based netcode and hoping people won't complain.
