If you have an Index, the game is substantial more playable, better looking, and a more pleasurable experience. Small text is more defined, the lack of the screen door effect on the index makes the graphics shine, and it can be ran at 120hz making big ships look wonderful as they glide in from a boost.
It is playable with Xbox One controller though, unfortunately it is not possible to map button combinations (which is possible in Elite) and because of this there are just not enough buttons for all important things. But at least it works reasonably well this way.
Gesture control works by motioning the left controller. You tilt forward/back, left and right, twist to roll.
The motion control they implemented is hands down my favourite of all motion use thus far.
Turn on gesture steering, and you'll 360 on the unplayable.
Is there some binding to set target from map as "temporary quest marker" (similar as some NPC's do when I choose "Where can find you" option)? I could not find it anywhere but I think I was doing something like this in past in the non-VR version with keyboard & mouse - to get directions to the target displayed, e.g. which highway to use, when to leave.
Anyway gesture steering is THE best. I wish many other flight sims could adapt dome sort of gesture steering mechanism.
edit: I'd like to add, it's a shame that it seems like the Devs released this and then abandoned it, with a touch more polish they could have taken what was a poor 2d game and turned it into the premiere VR space trade/combat game.
Enable gesture steering. You haven't done so if you're using the stick to steer.
The controls on the Index are perfectly fine, i myself have probably around 150 hrs usage with them.
