Raiden V: Director's Cut

Raiden V: Director's Cut

Good lord this is expensive for a shoot 'em up.
I'll pass until a little more thought is put into how to price this game. I do love the Raiden series, but a price like this for a game you are only likely to get 3 hours of enjoyment out of, no thanks.

I don't live in the US, and whether it's 50c or $2 the point still stands, before long you are going to pay your way well beyond that of buying the game.

Only if you are the worst.

This is not expensive for a shmup, nor is it expensive for a video game.

Pretty much any shmup has way more replay value and is worth your money more than pretty much any $60 blockbuster. Getting "only three hours of enjoyment" is like buying a Forza at full price, playing it for an hour, and then never touching it again. How awful.

Assuming you've actually been paying that, and not waiting for sales.

And with the amount of indie titles and roguelikes, It's not crazy to expect +30 hours easily from a 10~20 dollar game anymore.
Which only means those games are undervalued.

Also, playtime doesn't actually mean anything because it never takes into account replay value.

Not going to read the thread and see if this has already been said, but no, this is completely standard pricing for a new and not-indie shmup.
You don't have to like it, but this isn't some crazy ridiculous price totally out of left field.

That being said, the apparent lower quality compared with various far cheaper indie shmups here on Steam doesn't exactly make buying it before it's something like 75% or 80% off an attractive proposition at all.
I'd say Crimzon Clover, Super Hydorah, Kamui, RefleX, and (soon) ZeroRanger are all significantly better, and don't suffer from amateur issues like bullets blending in with the background as Raiden V does.
I dont remember what I paid for this game but I got it on sale. I absolutely love the game. IT has tons of replay value which is old school and gamers today dont understand why someone would play through one game over and over again . Raiden V is fantastic.
wait the price of the game seemd to has changed(without sale) ???

$34.99 has always been the base price as far as I know.
Maybe if you live in another country and they played around with the regional pricing a bit, then things may have changed, but otherwise I don't believe so.

According to steamprices.com, the US price has indeed remained unchanged at $34.99 since release.

The UK price was originally £30.99 and changed to a regular price of £26.99 in January. Other regions may well have done the same.
yeah they adjusted region prining as i see
I can't speak for other countries, but the price seems to have dropped in the range of 40-70% on Southeast Asia. According to SteamDB, the prices were adjusted on 7/12.
price drop now

I probably missed plenty, but after DariusBurst's "fanbase" absurd crying for EVER for a AAA, featuring hours upon hours (and then some more hours in you have them), technically sound shooter (hmm sounds not only worth the value of any other mediocre fps or act/adv that is more$, but I'd say a far greater value). I am just shocked at how much of the apparent "real fans" just jump to complain and whine about good games being "ALMOST" full priced like "normal" games.

Yes, does the market for the Genre dictate the need to often price lower than average in spite of offering a better experience than many other more expensive games releasing all around them. That just says it all though. Whomever just decided that "shoot em ups" have to be bargain games is both a fool, and no fan certainly. Do I like good deals? Of course I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ do. At the same time how can you ever expect the few big name franchises to make it over EVER if people are already convinced that no matter the quality such games "aren't worth that much".

I could understand from a casually interested party being taken aback initially, but for such chunks of a community that should be supporting releases like this more than ever. Simply cry about price, and in the price almost certainly deter any potential buyer by way of your ignorance makes me equal parts disappointed and discgusted.

If you like good games, ESPECIALLY vertical shooters, then buy it. Simple is that.

Also to the person above. yeah its swell if you have a Raiden cab. or anything next to your house great for you. I haven't seen that since probably 2000 at the latest though so I assure you that your in the minority. I live in DC so it is no forgotten land either. If I ran into that machine at an arcade around here (of which there are two uber MEH barcades, MK1 and XMEN being the best games across both should make that clear) I'd at least pop in 2$ once or twice to give a run for the love of the arcade game and experience.

edit: to the original TS, if you are only getting three horus of enjoyment something is wrong. Or your the greatest player on the planet.

Ok, those are my thoughts.

Hey ya, it's all started with when PS1 made a shift to TEH CINEMATIC GAEMZ. Arcade spirit was dying since then. People want story heavy games with 40 hours of "different" play rather than mastering "half an hour long game" for hundred hours. And now they think arcades belong to garbage bin due to how its not aaa budget game (how many millions of dollars the last of us 2 has in making?). And they basically dont have an interest to play it more than 20 mins then rarely come back.

@daikatan I definitely agree with your sentiments on the whole. It is unfortunate that so many players, particularly those that did not get a real arcade experience growing up. I'm "only" 32 but I say that in relation to the fact that even though they were rapidly dying off by the time I hit highschool. The impact of such games, even just watching them (SFII, which is a funny parallel to LOU2 as it was and I believe still is technically one of the biggest selling games ever and i'm not sure if that factors in all arcade revenue either but I digress) from the ages of probably 5-14 we're such memorable times that I find it hard not yearn for at least the ability to have a few things that pay respect to the skillbased challenging approach of most traditonal arcade games. The "different" gameplay over 40 hours vs two minues is also very accurate in both reality and the flawed mental approach so many people have to a great, challenging, and above all not treating you like an idiot and giving you the tools to work with and learn from, as opposed to just chucking it and enjoying the "Variety" of set pieces that practically play themselves in 85% of newer games.

Ok, I;m done. So easy to just try and say one or two things and before you even realise your doing it, The rant is over and already on the screen haha.
