if I didn't find the trailer funny, will I find the game funny?
I'm not a huge fan of point and clicks, but they're occasionally worth it when there's enough humor and story (and not just a lot of busywork). Monkey Island games had a pretty good balance. The humor kept me playing. But I watched all 3 of the trailers on the Thimbleweed Park Steam page here and if there were any jokes... they fell flat for me.

Is this just a case of "the trailers don't have many jokes" and/or are not the good ones? Or is this more of a serious game? Thanks!

Hi

I did not find the trailers funny tbh. Also, the game itself didn't make me laugh much. I smiled a lot because of some of the characters.

What you will find is this game is more in tune to the original Maniac Mansion. It has a strong sense of place and a lot of interesting places to discover and cool puzzles. Some of the characters are awesome and some are kind of cringe. The trailer does not pick the most interesting bits.

It's a fun captivating affair at least for me. I find it to be amongst my favorite point and click games. Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick are masters of their craft and it shows. Most of everyone who attemtped a game in this genre since the 90's have failed to capture the spirit of good old lucasart games and some of the sierra games. These game nailed it proving it wasn't luck. It is them, they know what they are doing.

Playing this is indeed like finding one of these old games in 2019. I whole heartedly recomend this game. Not for the humor but it does capture the sense of amazement i had in the original maniac mansion wich was rather unmatched at the time. Then again, i hold in such high esteem that particular game that something that can duplicate a bit of what i felt playing it at the time gets high praise for me.

I say get it, and enjoy it. They just don't make them like this anymore.

It has humor, but not really LOL humor. It's more of a noir, mystery, detective story with dark absurdist humor and Twilight Zone elements mixed in. It's a solid point and click adventure game. If you like those, then get it. Similar structure to the classic Monkey Island games (1, 2, and 3), with the multiple character structure like Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle, but not as funny, which does not mean bad in any way. Depends what you want I guess.

Yeah I don't remember laughing out loud to Thimbleweed Park, exactly. Deponia has a lot of absurd and silly humour which did have me laughing out loud through the surreal nature of the writing, but as games they are not as strong as Thimbleweed Park.

For me, gameplay comes first, and by that in this genre I mean the puzzle design.
