Lack of fish
Hey folks! Just started fishing in a new game, after a long brake. I have three fishing huts close to each other and between them a fishmonger. Those three huts get less than 20 fishes during a year. Is this normal? Should I make a lot more huts around my isle to get enough? Thank you!

Honest advice? Don't bother. Pig farms and butchers far outstrip what fishing can provide for meat. The only thing you miss out on by not having fish is a single extra point of Happiness generated by Theaters. That's all. I sincerely doubt the sunk Population and tool cost to do fishing is worth it.

Thank you. :) I'll just remove them all. They should really fix this. :(

The intention was fishing doesn't take any runup to get started nor does it require wheat like pigs do. Unfortunately, its downsides (diminishing availability as well as inability to fish during storms) far outweigh its benefits.

I've been having this issue as well, good to see it's not just a me thing, but I really wish there were ways to increase fishing ability, considering the map I'm playing has lots of fish all the way around my island, you would think there'd be some way to get enough to make my villagers happy, but instead I'm strapped for fish, and bursting with pork from just 2 pig farms and keep needing to add butchers to have space for all the fresh meat.

Well it might be nice for a structure that leds us breed fish for ourselves. Like Fish Nurseries in real life.

I top up my fish availability by trading for it. Fish isn't exactly entirely useless if your intention is to maximise every tile on the map since you have no other use for all those ocean tiles they occupy, might as well build a fishing hut and have at that fish. Fish isn't just about that extra point of happiness, it also makes your citizens healthier and more robust against plagues; but as it stands plagues are way too easy to resolve so i guess that's sort of a non-issue right now.

Though citizens being annoyed by the smell of a nearby fish monger is kinda annoying for "city planning". I would definitely agree it needs another balance pass.

I believe a better fishing boat would be more fitting. It could either take the form of a different building (costly in comparison to the fishing hut and perhaps larger in tile size), or it could be an optional upgrade in the menu of the fish hut. For x materials (either difficult to acquire or numerous in volume) you can get build a better boat for the fish hut and receive plenty more fish.

i like this idea. even simpler, just add a research tab in great library for +25% yield.

Yes, Research tab for increased yield, fish breeding (in moats?!), and/or fishing boat upgrades! Also a fun way to increase yield later game and not early on is to double/triple the bonus Master skilled Fishermen give. Fish just do not yield enough as is

Fish seem fine to me. 111 fish in stock with 2 or 3 fishers and 1 or 2 fish monger
With fish you really just want to put fish huts farther apart around the island (though as someone noted earlier, fish is not the best food source for a bunch of reasons)...

Have some vids on my youtube Kingdoms and Castles playlist that you might find cool to check out if you get a chance by the way...not related to your question but might give you ideas on the game and setups...

There are whole societies centered around fishing for food and commerce. It seems super shortsighted to make it almost useless rather than finding a good balance.

It is not almost useless...just not as effective as other food sources in the game due to the reasons noted (storms, overfishing)...

I reckon this necro post, there should be an expensive late game tech to make fishing as viable as pigs
