I kinda agree that there should be some kind of way to "link" islands. Though maybe not with roads. I miss the old days when you could make a "mega castle" on the entire map... I really like how the deep water means you can not turn the map into a massive square of piers.. but it would be awesome to be able to build connecting castle walls and stuff linking things so you can make cool and interesting castles.
The problem with roads across deep water is that it nullifies the port system.
So if they "do" add roads across deepwater, maybe there should be a "distance limit"... so you can span small areas, but not large ones or build into the ocean. So islands right next to each other can be connected by bridges but not ones far away.
From my experience, bridges have no use, or barely.
Too pften even what looks like rivers are too large to put bridges.
Would be great to have proper rivers where we could build bridges on them.
I don't mind having to build harbors or such to make links between further lands by boats, but currently, it seems it's the only way every time.
