moving resources
I was curious to know whether it was possible to move resources such as armaments to other storehouses or whether this is a game mechanic that is meant to teach you about strategic placement of blacksmiths and warehouses.

Been thru this - its painfull.

Make sure none of your storehouses are accepting armaments except where you want them to go. Make sure that location is (at least temporarily) accepting nothing other than armements, so they'll focus on them.

Destroy the storehouse where the armements currently are. As soon as it is destroyed, you can rebuild it, but make sure the new storehouse does not accept armements. It takes a while to rebuild and this will probably be disruptive to your economy, so be ready for the impacts.

If they don't move the armements, you need a temporary storage facility that is closer to the current location. After the temporary location has them all, then destroy it. Repeat as needed.

Because of how awkward it is to move resources in the manner GreyBeard describes, I've gotten into the habit of pausing the game as soon as a storehouse is finished, disable/close it, THEN assigning what I want stored there, unpausing for a minute or so, then enable/opening it again.

I've noticed that as soon as a storehouse is finished building and free citizens are assigned to it, they will pick up any item that is immediately nearby them to bring to the storehouse - which is why, even if you pause as soon as the storehouse is built and ONLY change what items can be stored there, you might see 2 or 3 of an item you didn't want stored there... um, stored there.

I'm hoping a future update might give us some better control over stored items, even if it's something as simple as disabling an item at a storehouse ALSO empties that item from the storehouse, so we don't have to do the destroy/rebuild method.

Agree with having to close it to avoid getting whatever the workers initially grabbed.
I keep asking to be able to configure buildings during construction, instead of having to wait until they are built.

We'll be adding a way to make this easier in the next update. Something along the lines of allowing the workers to clear out unwanted resources like Momaw mentioned.

My dream for this game is a similair design to how the transport ships work, but more general - you would build like, a wagon worker stall or something and the wagon would go find a set number of a set reasource before brining it to a set place
