Generals, Soldiers and Heroes... Help
How the heck do these work? I can never figure them out. I know how to make Soldiers and heroes but not generals, and I can't figure out how to actually use them. Now i just have a ton of walls with no actual guards besides the tower ballista and archery things

Hero is synonymous with general it's describing the same unit. Click a hero and right click near a barracks to move him in range. If there are soldiers in the barracks a button will appear in the heros interface that says "recruit" which will attach all adjacent soldiers to him.

Would be nice if there was an indicator which told you how many followers a general has. I've wound up with one that has so many he occupies two tiles with his army and another who i daren't send into combat as he's not got enough to survive and i can't figure out how to re-arrange the "squads", if you can re-rrange them at all.

I don't think you can rearrange the soldiers.
FYI, I consider a two square army to be small.

As said move the hero/general close to the barracks and ht the "recruit" button in the heros tab. This will create a little circle on the map around the hero and any recruits in the baracks within that circle will join that hero army.

In general if you want your hero to stay alive and win fights you want more and more troops. Two stacks (squares) is what I'd consider minimum and honestly the more the better.
