I don't think the game supports the concept of selecting multiple things.

You can select trees for removal pretty fast. Click on a tree/square and hit "c". Repeat as desired.

If you click on a tree/square and then hover over the "Cut" button, the game will tell you that the shortcut is "c". It has also been mentioned several times on these boards.
