That's enough to trigger the hit. Happiness needs an overhaul in general it's a frustrating mechanic.
Unavoidable vikings that set foot for 1 second on your land? -a chunk of happiness
Set taxes to 3g so you can pay off your large number of town defenses? -A hit to happiness so high that you'll never see new villagers again.
I just feel like the negatives to happiness need to be toned down a bit, the positives to happiness seem pretty well balanced.
The vikings are dumb. This is the only one I agree with on you.
I've never had to set taxes above 2g so I wouldn't know about that. I've had 1500~2000g at all times since I passed 300 pop.
3g is mandatory once you hit really high pop above 800 or so, my best town is sitting at 1100 at the moment and if I turn gold down to 2 I take a 170 gold hit every month.

^ This happens if you wall off your entire city with piers, walls, and ballistas while leaving one tiny opening, kind of an entertaining bug.
But yeah when that invasion glitch happens you won't get anymore unless they somehow leave.
IMO activating/deactivating defenses feels kinda cheesy (especially with towers able to attack before the crew actually arrives) but a "everybody get inside the walls" command would make a lot of sense.
