I've refunded this. I normally do a video review for each game I play but this was SOOOO boring I have very little to say.l

In the 30 minutes I spent playing this I ran around a series of the same looking sewers using the same assets whilst mediocre voice acting played whilst I read journal entries. I also had to do that typical thing of finding a series of levers and pulling them... nothing about this was fun. I couldn't even bring myself to bother with a review. It was THAT boring.

So many problems with this 'horror' game. The main one is the game crashing on exit, meaning none of your progress is saved forcing you to lose all your progress. Worse, verifying your files to try and fix the crashes wipes your save completely forcing you to restart from the beginning, Not impressed. You will also find other minor bugs and glitches throughout your playtime.

There is also a lack of video options, and I was forced to run the game with medium settings as any higher resulted in terrible FPS. Could not find a way to rebind keys either.

So what about the gameplay itself?

Usual dull plodding affair you find on steam. Yes you have a torch, and yes the batteries run out super fast. Annoyingly the batteries you find scattered around the level don't even fully recharge it, and no you can't carry batteries with you.
Yes you find notes telling the dull story you have heard before - some voice acted some not. The voice acting itself is middle of the road.

And finally you have the monster - I think your supposed to stealth around it, but seeing as it spawns on top of your location, that is impossible and it will hunt you down like a dog. The only positive is some levels give you multiple exits which lead to different levels, but seeing as all the levels I saw were the same dark repetative ugly sewers - why bother?

Very hard to recommend this even with the low cost.

A great debut from an up and coming developer. The game plays smoothly and unlike a lot of other horror games relies on tension and not a constant flurry of jump scares. Well worth a look if horror FPS is your genre of choice but if not i'd say that given it's price point it's really worth a look for all those out there that are either learning game development or it's something that they are aspiring to.

So originally, I asked the developer if I could get a review copy of the game to which he respectfully declined. I decided with the intent of already doing so to purchase a copy anyway. At the time however, I was doing a mass activation and had left it in my inventory (still there). Over the next few days, I happily helped share the game about social media and the developer decided to give me a key for being such a "good sport". I thought I'd state this as it has absolutely no impact on my review regardless of the fact it's a free key activation or that I'm friendly with the developer.

Now onto the game itself:
With the vast amount of horror titles to choose from on Steam, what makes this one stand out from the rest? Well, for a start it's not your usual jump scare filled plotless cavalcade of zombies like most of the horror games on Steam. While playing A Demon's Game, their are multiple path options, choices matter and will carry over to the next game. I won't go too much into the plot as I don't want to spoil it for any potential players but it does have an interesting plot which will keep me intriguied to see what happens in Episode 2 and if the multiple endings do in fact carry over. Gameplay wise, it plays well enough, like an old school Half-Life mod, standard FPS controls. A few bugs here and there but the developer has been on the ball with fixing any hiccups so far which is another reason I was ok with investing money into this game. I'm still helping bug test this game whenever I play it and will happily do so again when the 2nd episode rolls out.

So all in all, I think it's a good game. It's hard to be prevalent in an era of games like Resident Evil 7 and Death Stranding as an Indie developer but I think A Demon's Game did a good job of keeping me interested and luring me away from the like of the aforementioned games for an hour or two at a time. So I can't fault it for that. Give it a shot, it's worth it. :)

This game is terrifying. The atmosphere and lighting provide a great wombo combo that feels like a fresh breath after the sudden jumpscares that most recent horror games have taken a light to. It seems fleshed out, properly written and a good game to play again and again to explore all of the different branchs and paths. I would highly reccomend it to those of you that enjoy properly searching for items and secrets and well made horror games.

Not unique as described seems rather generic running through corridors (in this case a sewer) finding switches and where to put switches to make it to the next level, starts of a story (though what a group of men working in a sewer 24/7 are doing there I'm not too sure, I didn't make to the finish) but there's not really enough to keep me interested, why do I care about john and dave? I don't there's nothing to them. reminds me of a closed in rake that chases you till you work out the switch puzzle and get to the level exit.

Positives? I like the voice over on the notes, not that it was the best, kind of cheesey in places, but it was good not having to read every note. The idea is there and it could have some potential if it gets out of the small corridors adds more atmosphere and buffed the monster to somehow actually scare.

All in all in it's current state I don't recommend it, needs a lot of work and rethinking.

Didnt like this game the batteries for the flashlight are the worst I have ever had in a horror game they also drain there power if you pause the game.
I cannot recommend this game for entertainment value.

Got the game on sale for 0.50$ for that price its a decent game, and also not that short, more then 1h.
Most small indie games today re like 15-20 min 30 min if lucky, and all you do in most games find 2-3 keys and just walk around and done.
But in this game there where notes, puzzles, switches to press, items to find, run from a monster, so more game-play then big amount of other small indie games.
Cant call this horror much really also sry, no jump-scares minimum of atmosphere ad music, just one monster chasing you for a little bit, but AI is pretty broken, you there is no need to be scared, if you are quiet he will not get you.
Have no idea about the story, something one guy betrayed another ? I think so, something like that.
But i got my money worth here for sure for 0.50$ sure.

I just finished playing this game through and I have to say that it is totally awesome. I love it. Its suspense to the max and a total thriller. I definately recommend this one. Its early access and is and will be a great game. So should you buy it...hell ya. Enjoy everyone!

In Demon's Game - Episode 1, you are sent on a mission by the devil himself to eliminate four demons gone rogue. Shortly into the game you find yourself in a sewer flipping numerous switches to open doors. So many switches, so many doors. I believe the whole mission is actually a ruse by the devil and he has simply sent you to hell. A boring and banal existence, trapped in a terrible world where everything you do is meaningless. Also there's some voice-overs.
