Honestly if it wasn't for the fact that there was at least a month long timeskip between when she was cursed to when a route is able to start, the idea of Lucette actually putting her big girl pants on long enough to partner up with someone would be inconceivable to me, much less fall in love lksjglk
I personally feel that she becomes more endearing during routes, since the whole point of her curse is to become a better person. I personally like how she usually comes to the point in a route where she wants to help out and puts her all into something she believes in once she puts her mind to it. At least when it's for a good cause, not... being absolutely terrible to her step-family klfgjskgj
I actually really, *REALLY* don't like Parfait and Delora in this moment. There needs to be a lot of justification needed (to me, anyway) for me to approve of what they did to this adolescent girl.
Like, Yeah, I get that they have good intentions in mind for the common good. But I can definitely sympathize how upset Lucette must've felt since who the heck are they to mess with her life just because she doesn't want to play nice. Plus, after learning about them more, it can feel like it was moreso for their own motivations (even if it's for the good of the people) rather than genuine concern over Lucette's wellbeing in some routes.
I just think that Lucette just needed to be prescribed with some chill pills because Damn, no sad backstory should excuse anyone for being a prick to everyone in a 10 mile radius but why does the first solution you guys think of has to be putting a CURSE on her?? And then expect her to 100% trust the people responsible for CURSING her??
She has been hated and was judged for her mothers actions by everyone for doing nothing wrong since she was a small child. Most of her memories have been taken away, she never left the palace and was taught her whole life that everyone except for her mother will never love her, accept her, be honest with her or whatsoever. She tried to get her fathers attention uncountable times who had to push her away and now that her mother, the only person ever claimed to love her, is gone, her fathers love is stolen again by some.. strangers.
So no, I have a lot of love for this girl <3
we have so many shy girls protagonist who are a blank slate for the reader to project on or are so infuriatingly submissive that they are literally a walking doormat (yes im looking at that girl from diabolik lovers)
i am so sick to death of "pure" protags, lucette is a ♥♥♥♥♥ and i love her for it. especially knowing that a good part of the story is her growing as a person/character.
1. Raised by Witch Hitler in almost total isolation from other people.
2. Her father doesn't care enough about her to stop her mother from doing this to her.
3. Is trained to suppress all expression of herself and slavishly obey her mother.
4. Is treated like an extension of her mother by everyone around her, not like a real person.
4. Grew up in the middle of a witch genocide and probably knew her mother was a witch (the only person who cared about her).
5. Had her memories of her mother, the only person to raise her and care for her (albeit abusively), erased and then...left in near total isolation (whose bright idea was that?).
This is not something you are going to "recover" from, it's the kind of thing that alters your personality and people just need to get that. IMO in some of the routes, the people are just a-holes to her without empathy, failing to grasp why she's thinking and feeling the way she is. They just want her to conform to their norm without any compassion or grace extended to her for her upbringing.
I'm surprised they picked Cinderella and didn't go with the Snow Queen or Sleeping Beauty, because greed and selfishness aren't the real problem here, social isolation and abuse are. The story is like taking a lab animal and dumping it out in the world; it's not going to know how to survive and thrive outside of that cage since it wasn't raised in the wild.
