MMO - Massively Multiplayer Online game
Is it MASSIVELY multiplayer? Maybe not yet, might be though.
Is it Multiplayer though? Definitely.
Is it an Online game? Yeah.
Ergo, it's an MMO.
i don't mean to defend the OP but: "A massively multiplayer online game (MMOG or MMO) is an online game which is capable of supporting large numbers of players, typically from hundreds to thousands, simultaneously in the same instance (or world)."
doesn't seem to fit your game, it's quite a stretch to say 14 players is exactly a 'large number' for this purpose
a quote from that article
"A massively multiplayer online game (MMOG or MMO) is an online game which is capable of supporting large numbers of players, typically from hundreds to thousands, simultaneously in the same instance (or world)."
So you are telling me when this game is available and i log in.. it will be to a game where i can play in the same instance/world with a large number of players ?
Or is it going to be like i expect a lobby based game like the others.. not saying thats a bad thing but in no way is a lobby shooter an MMO.. or do you class games like battlefield, Counter Strike and call of duty mmos ?
Again there is nothing wrong with lobby based shooters I enjoy other similar games no problem at all but they are not MMOs.
But i guess its not the companies fault really.. hell everyone decided to start calling their games mmos a few years ago for some unknown reason.. maybe they thought they would trick people into getting their games thinking they would be actual mmos.. so really the MMO tag on most games its totally pointless.
But for me this quote will always be what an mmo is.
"A massively multiplayer online game (MMOG or MMO) is an online game which is capable of supporting large numbers of players, typically from hundreds to thousands, simultaneously in the same instance (or world)."
it's really not
having a freemium business model on a >20 lobby based game doesn't make it an MMO
the only property of an MMO i see in this game is multiplayer capability
not all multiplayer games are MMOs however
As someone who has been around since Frogger on the Atari.
MMO's originally were coined because of thousands of players with whom log in and out of a persistent universe/world.
The genre of which does not matter (FPS/RPG)- the persistence does.
By the failed logic in here, Quake 1 if you increase the server limit is an MMO.
Just. No.
