How I start a game in multiplayer

At first, you should already have a world. You can use an existing world or create it specifically for a co-op game.
Then the sequence of actions is as follows:
1. In the main menu you press Multiplayer -> Start new game
2. Select the world and press Play
3. You will see the window with a list of players (curently you will be alone in this list). Now wait your friend.
4. After you selected the world you friend should press Multiplayer and he will see your game in the list
5. Then your friend should select your game from the list
6. After you see that your friend wass added to the list of players you press Play
