How to tame Goblins?

I'm probably just being stupid but I've only had the game for a couple of days. Sorry in advance.

Using chain traps I've tried;

Approaching them and throwing from a distance before they attack,

Throwing while they're running at me to attack,

And throwing mid battle after lowering their health.

Nothing's working and I can't level up. I'm also pissing away so many copper coins to make chains.

Sorry if it's really obvious or if it's already been asked. I searched for it and couldn't find anything.

The way I tame them is to kill all but one in an area, or find a lone one. Then let him run up & start hitting me & keep throwing traps at him. You will eventually get him, & a lone one doesn't do much damage

Let the goblin run up to you, and face straight toward him, then throw the traps. The chain traps catch the goblin best when he is right against you and attacking you.

If you have enough chain traps, you can tame it while goblin hitting you.
Step backward when goblin runs to you, then throw 5~6 chain traps.
