What happens if you answer the phone

On Day One you get loudass white noise, and can open the front door to collect an egg and unlock the basement door (just a shortcut).

On Day Two if you answer it, there was REALLY loud banging on the front door. However, I could not find any way to open it. I also peered in every window, even the one by the Christmas tree to try and see who was knocking, and there was nothing. I'm gonna start a new game soon and try to see if the ringing happens on Day 3 if you neglect the phone the first two Days as well.

I tried answering it on day 3, got another burst of white noise. I couldn't tell that anything had changed and still got the standard ending on Christmas Day. I'll try again with nights 4 and 5.

EDIT: More white noise on night 4. Answering on Christmas Eve gets you a garbled message and an achivement.
