I would argue that Death Road of Despair is significantly harder than the trials. At least you can brute force your way through the trials or use skills if you get stuck.
Don't try it unless you really want to get 100% completion because it can take a long time to get each move into your muscle memory. I remember one guy saying it took him 14 hours to get to the end the first time and two more hours to do it a second time. Just have fun with the story and don't get caught up on the minigame.
Kinda minor spoiler, but you will have to play it again later for story reasons, but the difficulty is drastically reduced.
