Well, this game is a VN, ofc you gonna play for the story. P5 is a jRPG, the only thing in common i can think off are both developed in Japan and have a lot of texts/dialogue.
DG is more "like" Ace Attorney than Persona, btw you should also check AA.

To answer the question, yeah, you play Dangan mostly for the story, but i think the game's stronger points are the class trial instead.

If you ever want to try this game, then you should play 1 (THH) > 2 (GD) > UDG (optional) > Danganronpa 3, the anime > V3. There's also a light novel called DG:Zero.

The games are nothing alike. Persona 5 is an RPG and Danganronpa is a virtual novel.
Style-wise they're both Anime-ish, yea, and they both have a good story with lots of dialogue, but to say they were similar would be like saying The Wind waker is the same as Borderlands because they're both cel-shaded and have an annoying companion.
That's not to say you can't like them both, but don't go into Danganronpa expecting it to be Persona 5 because you'll be sorely disappointed, especially if you dive straight into the third installment and pay the current price for it.

That's biased. You shouldn't give him an opinion, just the facts. The bias was you complaining about the price. But he does have a point, like the first guy who commented, don't play DRV3 first. And this guy does have a point too, if you play the third installment which costs full-price, when you don't even know what you're getting into, why buy it?

ok let me explain what i meant a bit more. i can play the newest game in the series and understand whats going on and still experience the full story and its focused more on story than gameplay

That's reiterating what we said, but yeah, it's very story focused. But there is a fair amount of gameplay, especially in the trials of the game.

More or less this, but again, DR's gameplay is completely different from Persona's. If you're going in expecting RPG elements, you're going to be disappointed.

Furthermore, DRV3 is supposed to be its own canon, separate from the other games, and it can be theoretically enjoyed without playing any other game in the series; playing the first two games, however, is still recommended, since there are some call-backs and in-jokes you'll miss if you haven't played the first two games. Given the high asking price of DRV3 right now, I'd suggest you play the first game, or at least catch an LP, so you can get a feel of what the tone and gameplay are like.

All games in the series that have been released on Steam have voice acting, with both the original Japanese tracks and new English tracks available; the amount of voice acting is about on par with Persona 4, where the major scenes have full voice-acting, while "smaller" scenes generally feature sound bites instead.

DR1 and DR2 are about 25 to 30 hours each, while DRV3 is about 40 to 50 hours.

Well, I wasn't biased. I did just give him the facts. You spend money on something expecting it to be like something and it's not, you'd be disappointed too. You'd be even more disappointed if it was that much aswell. That's not to say the game itself is disappointing merely you would be disappointed due to your subverted expectation of it.

There's a lot of disappointed in there and I don't know if you skimmed through my comment or not, but the last sentence was justifying why you said that and how I agree with you.

Persona
This game anything like the Persona games?
Monsieur Crow Dec 23, 2017 @ 3:16pm
This has been asked before.

Short story: Not really.

Long story: They both take place in Japan. That's about it.
Taka Dec 23, 2017 @ 3:43pm
they are, not alike in the slightest, lol. I honestly can't think of why you would put them together.

Persona 5 is a linear VN masquerading as an RPG. They're pretty damn similar.
