Anyone else feel like $60 is a bit much?
EDIT: Source on price: https://twitter.com/SpikeChunsoft_e/status/907892117732679680
EDIT 2: Conflicting source on the Steam version being $49.99 instead: (might have SPOILERS, CTRL+F "price") https://www.destructoid.com/review-danganronpa-v3-killing-harmony-461748.phtml

EDIT 3: The preorder is officially out now, the price is $60. Feel free to discuss.

It's been pretty much confirmed at this point that the PS4/PC version of this game is going to be $60. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Danganronpa games aren't worthy of a AAA price tag, but in the end this is just an upscaled version of the Vita game. There are a lot of factors that make me question the pricing of this game:

  1. Whether you like to admit it or not, Danganronpa games aren't exactly AAA quality. The games have been technically and stylistically impressive from a VN stand-point, however that doesn't really change the fact that these games have a pretty short dev-cycle compared your usual AAA shmuck. In the end the DR games re-use a lot sprites and are generally text based for the majority of the game time, the only exception being the class trials which are fully voice acted and have some unique sprite models.
  2. Most of the assets are just resized and upscaled from their dev-build where they already have the high resolution sprites, it's not like they went in and redrew and reanimated every single FMV/sprite in the game. Not only that, but if the demo is indicative of anything there are a lot of 3D meshes and textures that are left in their original PS Vita resolution.
  3. V3 has been out for almost a year now (January 2017). Even though it's very unlikely that a dev would drop the price just because it's a year old it's still a factor to consider. (not to mention all the countless months us foreigners had to deal with jerks trying to spoil the game)
  4. Generally speaking, Danganronpa games don't have a lot of replay value outside of achievement hunting, it's not the kind of VN that has seperate routes in the main game.
  5. Is the extra +$20 tag due to the porting? If the performance in the demo shows anything the game doesn't exactly run buttery smooth. God forbid the day when I need a semi-high end CPU and a midrange Nvidia card to run a glorified picture book.

tl;dr
I don't think the console port of V3 should've been above the regular rate of $40. I'll probably still buy this game regardless of my massive pricing rant, however it kinda sucks going into a game with buyer's remorse right at the start. I just hope there's someone else lurking the Steam forums who shares my sentiments.

While it could be argued that V3 is BY FAR the biggest DR game in terms of story and postgame content, I agree with what you're trying to say. V3 definitely should not be priced at $60. I'd say $45 is even a stretch since it's just a glorified VN. A game like this shouldn't cost as much as a game like Persona 5.

$60? Ugh, I expected $35, RIP not getting it on launch then.

Oh gosh...This person doesn't like the release price...
See, this is how we separate the true fans of the game, VS. the people who just tag along. SO LONG!!!

I read the entirety of your post, don't worry about it.

The issue is our definition of a AAA game is completely different. The reason why I questioned the pricing of the game is because the price is usually determined by production and dev-time. The simple fact of the matter is producing a Danganronpa game isn't as costly or time consuming as a full game release from a high budget company. It's not that there's no effort put into the DR games, it's more like there's less effort due to the genre the franchise is confined in, it's just fact.

I didn't really want to research what post-game content there was in V3, but I'm glad that all those options sound far more entertaining than what SDR2 gave. But honestly. I wouldn't count post-game content as replay value personally. For example, I don't remember the last time I replayed the School Mode or Island Mode outside of character endings simply for the fun of it, mostly because gathering wasn't fun. Perhaps V3 will change on that formula, but I'll have to wait and see.

If the lying system functions as you say it does then it sounds a bit disappointing. Due to souring character relationships that would mean you're discouraged to lie, which ruins the mechanic all together. When I first heard about it and played through the demo I thought it would be a great replacement for the memorization mechanic, now though I'm a bit skeptical about it. The way you described it makes it sound like you can get past a class trial without lying at all.

I've only seen mentions of the Love Hotel in the Steam forums, I just assumed it was the V3 equivalent of Island Mode/School Mode.

I don't think your description of the lying mechanic is right, Wizo. I don't know much about it, but I know that it doesn't change the game much at all. I feel like you're just pulling ♥♥♥♥ out of your ass, to be honest

Or, you know, people who don't have an extreme amount of expendable income.

I didn't believe it at first, but did some research and what Wizo said is a half-truth. You can use it to skip some Non-Stop Debates or have alternate conversations during the debate, otherwise it all leads to the same outcome if you lie or not. There are manditory lying sections however just like the memorization in DR1 and SDR2, it's not all optional.

Yeah, I knew it didn't have any lasting effect on the story. I have no clue where he got that from

Could you at least say things respectfully and nice? I am sick and tired of being swore at by you because I got information wrong. If I got it wrong, then someone like you should correct me on what I said wrong, instead of swearing at me and saying I pulled crap out of my butt. Have emotions for once in your life other than anger.

I'm just being honest. You pulled that information out of your ass. Simple as that. There's nothing against swearing, and I swear all the time anyway, so why shouldn't I? And you truly don't understand me if you think a couple of swear words and being somewhat abrasive means I'm angry.

You're right. I don't understand you. I can't understand how a person even exists who doesn't understand other people's emotions and swears at them over the internet, even though they told them to please stop.

Hmph. You're making too big a deal out of nothing. You act as if I kicked your dog just for eating its food.

I doubt the game will cost $60 on Steam. $45 most likely, it will not cost more than $50. $60 for the PS4 ver. cause of the license + package fees. The Steam version is a digital relase.
We will see the 22 september when they will reveal the price, also it will have a launch discount pretty sure too.
It was confirmed to be $60 by Spike on Facebook

Yeah...That was the point of this entire post. To argue your feelings about it being worth $60 or not...
