This game's controls are IMPOSSIBLE. (but it's still awesome)
Let me just preface this rant by saying - I LOVE THIS GAME. The art is some of the best yet, the characters are some of the best yet (back to that in a sec), the mysteries are intriguing, the twists are, as always, mind-rendingly insane, and even the humor, while off at times, still makes me laugh out loud now and then. Hell, I'd go so far as to say this cast of characters is the best one yet - there are NO characters which I 100% dislike. Even the little brat and the SJW (you know which ones I'm talking about), I'd take any day over the kid from DR2, or that fat slob from the first game.

However, there's one problem with this game. One fatal flaw which completely screws over the entire enjoyment of the experience. The controls. I know what you're thinking - it's a point and click. What controls? Well, the thing is, I don't have a gamepad. So I play my games with a mouse and keyboard. And the keyboard controls are IMPOSSIBLE.

Now some of them make sense. Mouse moves the reticle? All good. Left click is the A button? I can work with that. F1 for the menu? Odd, but useable. My problem, however, is this - the Y button? It's permanantly mapped to the enter key.

I repeat - THE Y BUTTON, One of the most critical buttons in the game and pretty much the entire way you get through the trials, is mapped to the freaking ENTER KEY.

Look, Dangan team? Spike? Whoever made this, I get it. I do. You were developing a PSP game, without keyboards in mind. I get it. Hell, I'm estatic that you released it on PC right away this time. That said, though, tell me - what brain dead monkey of a programmer put the Y button on the opposite end of the keyboard from the rest of the buttons?! And then made it UNABLE to be changed?

Oh, but that's just the start. See, the escape key is the B button. THE ESCAPE KEY. How the ♥♥♥♥?! It might not even be the escape key because sometimes when It says to press B, I press the escape and it doesn't work. So, I have almost no clue what the B button is, and don't even ask me where the X key is, because I have literally no clue where the X key is. Seriously. When it says to hit X, I'm practically smashing every button to get it.

The worst of it all is during the trials. It goes from a fun, engaging experience into a freeakinging nightmare of buttons which are miles apart from each other. I have to move the cursor with the mouse, shoot with the enter key, and slow down time with the E key. I LITERALLY NEED 3 HANDS TO PLAY THIS GAME. Not to mention, the messages are moving, so I need to track the cursor ahead of them and crap.

Oh, but that's not the worst. One of the mechanics in this game, is you need to HOLD Y to activate crucial abilities. So you need to TIME your holding of the enter key as well as keep track of the cursor, what people are saying, AND what solution you have equipped. It's impossible!!

But we're still not at the worst part of the controls. The worst part, by far, is the mass panic debate, where everyone talks at once. You need to keep track of THREE CONVERSATIONS, AND deal with these abysmal controls.

Can someone, at the very least, give me the freaking direct buttons for the control schemes so I can try to make do?

TL;DR - WHAT FREAKING BUTTONS DO I PUSH

This is a very detailed, although a rant, and nice thread. I would like this to stay at the top for a while because it will help others with what buttons to press during the trial. I agree with you; the button mapping is not good, and many others have been complaining about certain keys being switched and put in bad positions.
I asked a guy to come over and help with mapping the keys...

When I boot up the configuration tool, regardless of which type of help I select, in some of the trials or help screens, some of the buttons don't match, like it will say use the "a" key to look at truth bullets, when you actually need to press the "q" key for one type, and the other one says to press "a" when you should be pressing the "s" key. It made selecting the order and the final game of the trial feel impossible. If you find a way to directly map the keys, let me know, or maybe they'll fix it with a patch?

default controls suck. go into game directory folder. open config.txt, edit keys how you like. have fun.

Just like dubesor said, this is an error in the programming, and the solution to it is going into the files of Danganronpa v3, searching for a folder called, " config.txt " and switching the coding to be as it's intended. The coding will say something like, " key_a=s" and " key_s=a". That's obviously wrong and it should be set to, " key_a=a" and " key_s=s". That should fix the controls problem...
I am not the original person to find this out; I read it somewhere on the forums. So you can thank me for telling you, or the guy above me, but thank the other guy, which I currently have no idea who it was, for posting the information on the forums in the first place. xD.
:D

I would like to know, are you the original person who found this out, or did you read it from somewhere else on the forums?

Totally AGREE with you, I got angry with those non-sense keyboard control assign!
It stops me from playing and make me feel like I have wasted my money spent!

I've got two big issues with the controls/gameplay currently and I'm just starting up. The first is the fact that the cemera centers itself every time you move. I just reinstalled DR2 just to make sure that wasn't the case. This is actively making me sick when I play the game and try to look around.

The other issue being if I ALT+Tab the game it goes into Windowed mode and I can't switch back to fullscreen without restarting the entire thing

Yeah that ALT+Tab thing happened to me too and the only way I found to fix it was to exit the game and start it up again, I don't really have a solution for that. And I don't have motion sickness so I barely noticed the camera re-centering itself. Can't help much here...Sorry.
I would also like to add to this. I was playing the first investigation and since me and a friend were doing stupid voices for the characters I couldn't really concentrate on the actual truth bullets. The next day when I go back to the game I try to read some of them and the game tells me that I need right scroll to read more. I then try to press every button on the keyboard and literally nothing happens. Can someone help me on this?
