The part about Monokuma getting all his "alternative facts from the most trusted names in fake news" part really confused me. Like, which side are they making fun of? The alternative facts makes me think it's a jab at Trump, since that's something Trump's adviser Kellyanne Conway said that was viciously mocked by detractors, the part where they say "fake news" makes me think it's a jab at the Mainstream Media, since that's what Trump called them, and the part where they say, "the most trusted names" makes me think it's a jab at CNN's pompous slogan. Regardless, I found the reference really surprising, considering I wasn't really expecting there to be any political jokes. They're also well implemented so if you don't recognize them, you're not going to be distracted by them.

There's also a possible Pokemon reference. Tell Korekiyo that you think of a cool big brother when you hear the word kappa. That's what Lombre is.

Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure Kokichi made a Yugioh reference at one point when he mentions someone getting sent to the Shadow Realm.
