I don't get case 5 (Spoilers)
I THINK it's case 5, anyway. The one where the victim is unknown and everything.

I don't get it. I think it'd have been easier for Kaito to have placed Kokichi under the crusher, flipped a coin, crushed him if it went heads and waited for the poison to kill him before crushing him if it went tails (or alternatively, if you want to be more thorough, put Kokichi under the crusher while he's still alive, wait half an hour or so (making sure Kokichi doesn't make a sound), then crush him so that not even Kaito knows). There, Shuichi has no idea who killed Kokichi.

Actually, that's what I thought was happening. So uh, how did Kaito get proven guilty again?

I need to replay this. I think I missed something.

Kaito wants to avoid a situation where Maki is marked as blacken. He has to get his own hand dirty. Even if he does wait for the poison to do the job and record it as evidence. To show that everyone got it wrong it means everyone except Maki will be punished for voting it wrong.
Its all already go down hill when Maki took action. There's not much he can do in that scenario.
And it doesn't matter which one is correct anyway the mastermind will probably do whatever he/she likes to get the game going.

Kaito and Kokichi were working together to try and end the killing game. The idea was to trick Monokuma into thinking Kokichi was the killer, so that after the voting finished, Kaito would exit the exisal to prove Monokuma wrong, which they believed would have ruined the killing game.

When you get the video of "Kaito" getting crushed, the crusher briefly stops right when Kaito is out of view, this is because Kokichi stopped the recording in order to switch with Kaito. kaito is the killer because he was the one who used the crusher on Kokichi.

If Kaito let the poison kill Kokichi, it wouldn't have made a difference, since there would have been no proof that Kokichi was poisoned before he was crushed. Kaito wouldn't have any definitive proof that Kokichi died from the poison, so Kaito would have been chosen as the blacken either way.

You're a bit off. Kaito's plan was to get Monokuma to pick Kokichi as the Blacken so that he could prove Monokuma wrong by exiting the exisal. If the poison had killed Kokichi and Kaito had recorded it, Monokuma would have claimed the footage was faked and would have killed Kaito anyway. Monokuma doesn't want a mass execution, so even if the students had voted wrong, Monokuma would have most likely claimed that whoever they chose was the blacken.

Exactly my point since there's nothing lead to victim's death.
Right or Wrong it doesn't matter monokuma will pick whatever is best for his killing game.
Its already a lost lost situation for Kaito. Its either him or Maki. Thanks to Shuichi.
So by going for "Whoever they chose" and they happens to vote for Kokichi.
That means nobody has to die right ?

Sum it up to The game punishes you for "Finding the truth" again

So basically, Monokuma sucks and would have said whoever Shuichi voted for was the blackened, and would disregard all evidence to the contrary to keep the game interesting. Therefore, they had to vote someone who was provably not the blackened as the blackened, so that Monokuma would be proven incorrect, thus breaking the game.

Well. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense now. Thanks!

When you finish chapter 6 you will find that out.
It never was a "fair" killing game in the first place.
