To join a other online player you need to wait until there is a "Match found, join now" text above the multiplayer door. If you then enter the door you get connected to that player.
Also keep in mind that if you connect to someone they may be in a other room then you (like the chamber of heroes or the weapon room). If they have voice disabled you sometimes hear their voice for a second but then it gets muted.
To check if you are connected to another player you can check the multiplayer rostrum in the main chamber. If it says "Disconnect" you are in a online game.
I hope any of these tips helps you out!
Let me know if you have any more trouble, have fun!

My problem is coming when I try to connect to other players. From what you described I am either having one of two problems;
Im getting kicked back out to the main room after trying to coop, meaning the matchmaking is broken.
OR
What I think is a failure to connect, is actually a successful connection but was fooled because the starting chamber is empty.
Well, idiot checks are easier than troubleshooting, so let's assume I did get into a coop game. If I DID get in, what would it look like, because I would think it would just spawn me inside the dungeon right next to my new partner. Is this not the case? Or does a successful connection just start you in the main room and you have to actually enter the dungeon if the player is mid-level?
If that's the case, that seems to be pretty counter intuitive to spawning right next to them.
If that's not the case, how can I get the "match found, join now" message on the door? Yesterday there were 4 other people playing but I had no luck connecting. Is the number on the door total people playing, or people specifically playing with open lobbies? Again, if it is the total number, that seems counterintuitive, what if all those other people are playing solo without open connections, then I am mistakenly thinking there are games to join when there are none. If it is total people playing, I highly suggest it be changed to only show people with open coop lobbies, so you don't waste time trying to connect to nothing. Knowing other people are playing is useless if they are in solo lobbies.
I will try again today. Also validated, and reinstalled, just to be on the safe side. Thanks for your help with this. Will report back with updates.
You don't actually spawn next to your co-op partner when you join his/her game.
Also very important, the players online number doesn't mean they are hosting a game. This number only states the amount of people who are playing the game (Solo or Co-op). Maybe I should make this more clear in the game. I heard from some other people that multiplayer can be confusing. A fault from my side.
The only way to join another game is to enter the door when it states "Match Found join now". When this appears you hear some music and sounds coming from the door. If this is not the case you hear a "Hold on" Voice and you will return to the main chamber alone in solo mode.
So if there is no game available just host a public match and make sure a green text appears saying "Hosting Drop in co-op match". Then just go ahead and play some dungeons, other players will then get a message that you are hosting a game and that they can join you :)

I don't mean to be overly critical, but when referencing coop, it seems useless to show people who aren't in open coop lobbies. I'm just one guy, but I think it should be changed, and would make more sense reflecting only showing the number of players with open lobbies. Seeing who is playing solo does me no good, and will trick players (like me) into thinking there are matches to be had when there are not.
It would be much better to log on, see 0 open lobbies and just open my own and start playing, rather than endlessly try to find a match. Again, one guy, so grain of salt.
Reports like yours make me rework these systems and make them more clear.
Hope you find a co-op match soon! Have a very nice day,
-Thomas
