Any tips on strategy?
Besides just getting some tanks together, is there an OP formation that you use? I beat Zone 2 this morning and just unlocked formations but I have no idea where to begin. I also have this issue where monsters skip right over my tanks and attack other party members probably because they have higher Charm, so I dunno if I need to use equipment to deal with that.

(Unrelated to the above questions, but I also got a Lambda soul by chance. Is it rare or worthwhile to use it on someone? There's no guides for this game)

Low Charm makes easier target. Which is why Peer Fortress have low CHM stats. (but this is not 100% because certain enemies likes to target high charm character)
Also place tank coven at left most position (top of list in Brigade formation) so they can properly protect others. Putting them on right area makes them useless.

------

Higher the Soul Crality = better attribute growth. But don't worry about it in early stage.
Once you have access to Transfer Soul, it will autpmatically goes up depends on last level of puppet when you tranfer.

But if you don't want Transfer Soul (you don't need it to clear this game), then best to use highest Soul Crality thing much as possible.

Where did you get this info? They work in any position the same way as in left most position. They must be equipped with katars for better chance to attract enemy attacks to them - 10% base + 15% per each katar equipped according to skill description (so 40% max). High charm lowers the chance to get targeted so low charm increases it, that I agree with you. There was no info about them being in certain position especially in Brigade formation that does not give any formation bonuses at all.
Game was out in 2016 and there are plenty of wiki out there (in Japanese of course).
People figured out what is best to do quite a while back then.

So can you explain the reason why left position is better? I don't see any difference. You even said that positioning them on the right is useless, but I see them intercepting attacks, that katar skill triggers and is written in the log, so they are working and it is not useless at least.

I think I found the sentence that you are talking about on ♥♥♥ wiki, but it says the opposite. That you need to put defender on the right side and those that you want to protect on the left. It does not explain why either.

フォートレスが複数いる場合、隊の左に置くとフォートレス同士でかばいあってかばう回数を無駄にしてしまうので、なるべく右端に置くようにする。また優先的にかばいたいキャラは左端に置くのが良い

Google translate:
When there are two or more Fortres, putting it on the left side of the unit is futile and it is awkward to avoid the number of times of fighting, so we put it on the right end as much as possible. Also, it is better to put characters you want to protect on the left edge

Found description of the skill at another place

Google translate:
A skill that takes a 10% chance to attack a fellow instead when a defense team is selected. When equipped with tactical armor up 15% per one. It is a skill that demonstrates the true value in the second half boss game. However, since there are limitations on the number of invocations of 3 turns per turn, let's place it on the right side as much as possible.
They say there is a limit of activations - 3 times per turn and that's why it is better to put it on the right side. But I still don't get why. How amount of activations depends on positioning? There is some hidden mechanics it seems that is not explained in game.

Edit: I think I get the reason. Multihit attacks are displayed going from the left side to the right. So when someone starts that attack defender will be hit first, so one of his activations will be spent on his own attack. If he is on the far right he will be able to activate 3 times and then will be hit by the attack that targets him, so he is more useful on the right side. Still it only makes him a little less useful if he is on the left side, not totally as they write, there must be something else we are missing.

One other thing I noticed in this skill description on japanese site - it says that he intercepts attacks when Defense action was selected. That's why you see those intercepts so rarely, in game it is not mentioned that he must defend for his skill to work.

Tried this theory against a golem now. I have 10 attacker, 2 in each coven. Two defenders in the coven on the far right. Used defense with them before he activated his special attack. First 4 characters weren't attacked because defenders intercepted it, then 5th, 6th and 8th characters were attacked and finally 10th defender was hit too. So yes, it seems to be working. You need to put weakest characters to the left most position and defend with guards in the right most.
