The game is primarily for VR owning players to play locally or online, but it was requested by the community that you could play without VR.
By keeping the game in one client, if in the future you purchase a VR headset you will already have the full game to play.
Also by making the PC only client free, we would completely flood the servers with people looking to play with VR players, but the ratio would be way off. Keeping the client paid keeps a balance in multiplayer.
I hope that you would want to play our game, and support us by buying it.
Thanks.
It would be hard for me to convince them to buy a game, which basically requires me to be online and to play against them.
One can only speculate, but I think a free non-VR client won't hurt your sales.
It's mainly about flooding servers. We want to make sure that there are enough VR players to accomodate the PC players.
I understand the game was designed originally for local co-op, but I am just pointing out that there are some issues with expecting people who have VR to queue up to play without the headset 70%+ of the time.
You could charge $5 for the game without the VR option, and then a $10 upgrade path for people to add VR. It might intrigue people without VR to consider picking it up.
The game is primarilly and always will be a local multiplayer game, with online being used for friends online, not a matchmaking system with random people.
We looked into a seperate client, we'd have to push a different version of the game through greenlight again which may not even happen. Sadly Steam doesnt have as many options as youd like with upgrading your game per say.
Thanks for the opionions
