Chapter 5 - All Aboard
Having some issues beating this mission. Any tips for those of you who have beaten it. Tried camping the stim stations and didn't have much luck.

3rd try was a walk over.
- Stay on your side of the field in Ambush Stance and let them come (so they can't use Entrenched).
- If you can't make a sure kill with your highest Initiative unit, start with the lowest initiative unit.
- Loot and equip their weapons.
- Kill the Champion last or a bug can leave the mission unended.

Problem is, that skills are buggy, Ambush won't proc in the first two rounds and my fighters can't engage in melee and if they do, they make zero damage... And enemies can still attack like 5-6 times regardless!

I don't cheat. I like a challenge but this is beyond challenging, especially if it's buggy as well. So thanks for the "tip", but i prefer to win on my own fair and sqaure even if it does take me x amount of tries. If you cheat to beat a game you might as well not play it at all. where is the fun in that?

Edit: Seriousley frustrating at this point! Tried every tip given here so far, with no success. Ambush simpley does not work and even if I stay in my area, the enmy is Op due 5-6 melee attacks even without entrenchment!

Glad it's not just me with it at least. I switched from ops to do the story. This one's just left me cold.

First attempt, there was a non-persistent bug where I couldn't use 'strike' whatsoever. Literally ambush was the only skill coming up when trying to attack some enemies, move to another and strike would appear. Couldn't focus damage. Tant pis try again.

Second attempt, I figured I'd stay well clear of the ground where I'd not been able to use strike. Fight in the middle on the platform. Doing well til champion arrived and then the positioning ended up with the healing points safe areas teleport janking locking anyone in combat while I also had issues with ambush failing to trigger because of being able to enter its range without crossing its outer boundary.

Will try again in a bit with some of the suggestions others have made. Only thing I've learned from this so far is that watching goliath backside is worse than watching escher equivalent, and the camera really hates tight spaces.

edit: heh 3rd time breezed through and only some targeting messiness with bodies and a target on raised terrain but fight was over but for the last bit of bludgeoning by then.

I beat it on I think my fourth attempt.

I read somewhere that when your melee guys are crouched, the Ambush doesn't actually work properly as it should, which is exactly what I was noticing, as I would crouch before attempting to Ambush. Which if you think about it, kneeling down doesn't actually benefit you in any which way while you're fighting melee VS melee, as you engage in melee combat, forcing you to stand up regardless.

As soon as I stopped wasting AP on kneeling, and Ambushing right afterwards, I started to notice a change in how the Npc's tried to operate. It could just be the AI was insanely bugged out, and or simply did not know what to do if no one was crouched.

I also had my units, if possible, to form a wall with each other, standing side by side, so they couldn't be ganged up on as much, this also might have bugged out the AI.

I stayed on my side of the map, and did repair the nearest Health Station as well, and managed to even get in a couple of heals, which spared some units of mine a turn or two themselves.

I picked up the items with the second character that got sent out, and proceeded to kill the enemies one by one. When another one of my units spawn in, I simply saved the movement, and picked up the weapons the dead enemies were carrying. This gave me movement to spend using Entrench myself.

I would say the most difficult Npc's to deal with on this Chapter would be the guy with the Dual Butcher Cleavers, and the Dual Chainsaw sword character. I found if I could get rid of them first, especially the dual Chainsaw dude, everyone else was pretty easy to deal with.

Some people suggest leaving "the Champion" for last, but he is a powerhouse through and through again. If somehow he ends up on the map before those other two I mentioned die, I would try killing him first.

Again, i would try keeping your units side by side if possible. Only taking the first two weapons that are thrown at the start, and simply taking the weapons off of dead guys, to save movement for entrenching.

This of course is simply how I completed mine. I was able to have 3 Survivors at the end of the match. I thought I did pretty well, but I'm also fairly certain, the AI bugged out on me, because at least one, or two of the AI's, simply walked up on the platform in the middle, and tried to use Ambush. I'm guessing I just got lucky. But very well could be the AI didn't really see any other option to guarantee a kill, as it seems the AI in that chapter is built around trying to gain at least one kill per turn, if not more.

This mission is the only one I had to attempt twice in the first 10, I am now stuck on the final mission (15). One thing I have learned that saving mid level tends to generate more terrain bugs, such as locked doors unlocking. (Despite the tactical map showing that those objectives are complete.) I think until the patches have rolled in, some of the 'tutorial' missions are going to remain unbalanced in terms of increasing difficulty.

"health dispensors...."

What? i didn't know thats what they were and i beat it 1st or 2nd try. If its any consolation, people have claimed it was the hardest map. I think the one before it was twice as bad.

Oh I loved that one. That's my typical base defence for ops though (is it everyone's?) so I knew the map really well. That fifth one is definitely weird, my third attempt was easy as pie (and no glitchiness of any sort to attribute that to - AI was very sensible and punished a mistake pretty severely). Certainly helps to fight just after where you first jump down but slightly off where the terrain is lumpy.

You guys are talking about the pit fight? I managed to beat the Champ and I didn't even notice the healing stations? Took 3 turns but if you are super efficient it can be done without any healing.

Thanks for all the help. Not kneeling actually did the trick. Ambush is actually buggy when kneeling. Also, it seems that enemys can attack you twice as much when kneeling as compared to not kneeling. That bug needs a quick fix!
