Companion Classes?
So, do you pick the classes of your companions or are they pre-set? I do want a balanced party and would like to avoid doubling up on any classes when I choose mine. Anyone that got the early access version have any idea about that?

I believe you create your entire party, just like other entries in the series.

There are a handful of preselected hero companions you find as you start the game. However after a short while you earn mercenary tokens which can be used to create your own party. You start out as a female bard, but can change that within first 10 min or so. The others I'm aware of from beta are 2 fighter's, 2 mages and a rogue. 1 fighter you could not get in beta, I just know you eventually get her.

Also to clarify, at times you have to pick and choose who will come with you. But you can have 6 heroes in your party, and special occassions 7, then with summons it's possible to hold 8 max.

6 heroes in your party? doens't seem like you'll have any space to move around given the side of your playing field. but if there are 2 fighters, 2 mages and a rogue I guess that just leaves me to play bard, which makes sense if this is the Bard's Tale.

Hey @Jasta85, There are tons of pre-made characters you can recrute to your party, or you can throw them all out and use Mercinary Tokens to create a fully custom group. Each option is equally as rich.

But if you want to build the most well rounded party you can right out the gate, i'd suggest keeping Melody the bard or making a bard in character creation at the start of the game. The first 3 adventurer's you recruite are a Rogue, a Fighter, and a Practitioner. Starting with a bard is a good way to get a taste of everything.

thanks for the answer, I wanted to go with the pre-made characters as I assume they will have more interaction with the story than custom made ones. Good to know there are plenty of choices. Bard it is.

@Cowboy!+, if I roll my own character is Melody available to recruit at some point or is she only available as the starting char for people who don't want to make a custom character? (Just thinking it'd still be nice to have her in a party if she has interactions with other pre-made characters). Not a big deal if it isn't the case though.

Are the characters just generic, or do they have personality/stories?

Yeah theres quests for the companions, and the party banter differs based upon who you have with you. So far I'm pretty impressed with the chatter. The only thing is some spots trigger the same catch phrase every time you walk by it. Hopefully they fix that in the real game.
