it seems i keep missing on cog wheels.

u need 3 for skara brae and 4 in the forest for the thiefs den, but im missing 1 in each.

im on my 2nd playthrough and want to do all this time.
i got 1 cog from kylearan and another in the tavern in Fettercain. any one remember where to get number 3 for skara brae??

Let's summarize:
Gears for the cage opposite the guild in Skara Bray.
1) - Alguin Tower (it's hard to miss it there, I don’t remember the exact location)
2) - Tavern, book shelf. (The tavern is in the village, which you will find on the quest to find the Bard girl)
3) - ............. - I really want to know where this gear is so hard ...

Gears for a cave in the "Red Forest"
1) In the settlement of the people of this forest there is a quarry, there is something like a bar in it, look at the one of the barrels.
2) Not far from the settlement (outside), if you look up, you can see the hanging bridges. We climb on them with the help of a grappling hook and find the 2nd.
3) In the center of the map there is an island (there are still many decorations of bones on it + on it lies a fragment of a statue in the form of a skull) there is a corpse and a gear near it.
4) In the cave itself where this puzzle is located, the last gear is on the table.

So! Does anybody knows where is 3rd Skara Brae cog location?

For cog 3 it is next to a wooden lootbox overlooking a cliff on the Isle of Stronsea. It is after Wyre Village and the church and 1st and 2nd set of puzzle blocks, about halfway before reaching Castle Langskaal near the east side of the island.

sadly i did all of that and im still missing 2 "simple" cogs
if I take into account what @middleman said about the one in Isle, i get 1 "activating" cog which is also the same as the one in the Den (#4) itself. now the problem is, it only wants "simple" cog so i cant use that...

so in short, im screwed, man this game is buggy....

That's because you should have ignored middleman. The cogs found on Stronsea, are for Stronsea and getting to the castle thru the back routes. This is the main reason why they purposely made them a different type needed to find from Skara Brae ones.

Yes, @Darth Cannabis says true, cogs that you found on Stronsea are for this location only.

Yeah thats it, the game has a bug with the gears. If you have any gear in your pocket and grab the gear next to castle Langskaal the gameengine do not check if you put in the correct one. So i fix the problem with the gear puzzle near the adventure guild in skara brae. I put my gears in the gear-puzzle a short step north from the adventure guild. After that i go to the island and grab the last gear. Now i can enter the castle. Rise your horn.

Can anyone tell me where the 3 cogs for the door in under skara brae are? I’ve got one from the bar in baedi lowlands and one from kyl. tower bookshelf. Maybe i used a cog from inschriach forest on that door and now can’t open thief’s den. I hope i can use this third cog for it then. But i guess i ran into a bug with simple cogs and simple drive cogs like others did with german language.

We are adding more cogs in the game, and helping our German plays with their cog problems with a hotfix. :)

There is a 5th cog in Inshriach.

The four mentioned by Darth Cannabis are indeed for the thief's den.

The fifth is behind a vine door, in the SE corner of the map. There is a ladder & grapple point in the area. Getting the cog involved solving the block puzzle there to reach a chest - there is a cog on the ground right beside it.
